....I agree will bill...nice to see someone bobbing something other than a Harley...not that harley's are terrible but to each his/her own.....We got a few guys around me that have the older CB750's but no Maxims.......Keep it up asnd it will be sweet...any plans for a wheel swap or did I miss that ?

no plans for wheel swap as the bike is a shafty and i'd probably have to do a one-off wheel for the rear. i'm not big on mismatched front-rear wheels either. perhaps painting/powdercoating of the stockers down the road but we'll see.
i could go with a maxim x rear wheel which is alot more solid design but i don't know that it's the look that I want.
..I hear ya..thought there were more shaft drive wheels opyions now....there is an older intruder on craigslist near me and I have to say that this has got me thinking of doing the same as a winter project....But hey, I'm partial to suzuki anyway....Keep the updates rolling in I am following this one....

Defined loosely... Low budget built bike with shortened (bobbed) rear fender.
I'm still waiting to mount my new rear fender. I would have shortened my stock rear fender but the design wasn't really bobber friendly.
Yea flicking a rock up your ass might make you want a fender soon.

you know the thing u put on the end of your fishing line?!?! duh
strat- looks good i guess no big tire, then maybe you could do a nice big fender.

I had no idea what a bobber was.
Looking really slick strat. Loving the ape hangers.
thought i'd post a few updates on my bobber...
picked up a solo seat to replace the cut down seat pan, picked up another set of chrome turn downs, pulled the front fender, and did some other misc stuff.
I have another front wheel on the way (from a 85-86 Fazer) that will allow me to run a fatter front tire to match the rear. the wheel also has vented discs as a bonus. planning on whitewalls but not until the tires on the bike need replaced. Also, I will be ordering a set of forward controls in the next few days.
inspiration for the fat front tire...
The bike looks great. Any other plans for it besides the new wheel and possible white walls?
Lookin good, totally forgot about this build.
Looks great man.

"bobber" is a style of custom bike where the fenders are cut "bobbed" or removed all together. Usually a solo seat and ridged/minimal rear.

tc bros forward controls, faux oil tank/battery box, ditch the airbox, clean up the extra tabs on the frame, clean up the handlebars (move/replace the horn button, signal switch, starter button, kill switch, etc to get rid of the excess wiring coming off the bars), replace the gauges, repaint, mac 4-2 exhaust, and probably more as I go...
new wheel came in...
and took the bike out and put around 100 miles on it this weekend... lost a side cover in the process
forward controls should be here tomorrow.
my biggest pet peave is having the wheels match. I NEVER build a bike with mismatched wheels!!!!
I'd ride the @!#$ outta that thing. Looks fun.
You can do a wider back whee/tire
the fj600 has a chain counter shaft it should slot in your gears, it just requires splitting the cases. Then it's a matter of finding an offset sprocket and wider/longer swingarm.
i've done a few custom chain swaps with the xs750 and virago.
LOVE the fat front look. Did so on my kz650 rat bike
I'd like the wheels to match too but its my only current choice to run a fatter front. Once they are painted to match I don't think it will be near as noticeable.
I'd love to convert to chain drive and all but its currently beyond the scope of my fabrication abilities. Perhaps down the road.
just a small update...
got a new set of mirrors on the bike. still have new front turn signals to put on but haven't got that far yet.
I plan on taking the bike down to the frame this winter to get rid of some brackets and get it welded back up. (since the rails are still open where I bobbed the rear.)
i'll probably go through the motor and carbs while I have it apart. hope to have my new tires as well. lastly, I've got some ideas for the cleaning up the controls on the bars and may even through a jockey shift on for the hell of it.
