Bad Buy?

Hey guys, I've been looking for a different car lately. I have a 97 Cavalier coupe and it's starting to have a lot of problems and just sucking money out of me. Does anyone know anything about the Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V? I found a 2003 for a little under $5000, but I'm not sure its worth it. It's a yellow 2003 Sentra SE-R Spec V. It's got 133,XXX miles, and I think for 5k that's kinda pricey. It is a 6 speed manual and seems to be in pretty good shape other than a cracked tail light (would have them replace it) and a worn shift knob (not a big deal at all). Here are a few pics so just leave me some feedback and let me know if it sounds good or not.

Everyone here seems to know someone who has had bad luck with them. I had great luck with my Sentra and I haven't known anyone to own one who had any real complaints about it or its reliability. I can't view the link because i'm at work.

There are the pictures from the dealers site. Is 133,000 miles kinda high for a Sentra? That's the main thing I'm worried about.

If 133K is high enough mileage to worry about on a modern 4-banger from a big brand, it's got maintenance issues... if the car was well kept and taken care of(get a CarFax btw as well to be safe and make sure the title is clean and look CLOSE for signs of being repaired or repainted), then it shouldn't be a concern at 133k if you continue to take care of it.

Valid point. Nissan, Honda, Chevy, Ford..... should all have no worries with that mileage on a modern 4 cyl.

I think it looks really good. BUUUT It all depends on what you want. I heard they are fun cars to drive.

It looks ok! I know I'd stay away from it but if it looks good to you go for it!

QFT. Like I said my buddy when I lived in Louisana had one. I drove it a few times. Not a bad car at all. They aren't super fast in stock form, but they're torquey little motors. They feel much faster than they really are. Unlike a honda you don't have to rev it to 7k to get any power.

Or 9k like some of the vtec s2000s.... lmfao...

BUUUT Once again it's all about what you want. Do you want to performance mod? Do you just want a DD? Do you just want looks? It's a lot of opinion too.

Buut for 5 grand... i think you could do better if you want a good gas mileage DD or even something to make fast. BUUUT if you love something, go for it. I know now that i could have bought something quicker than the sunfire for 3300... but i fell in LOVE with it. And it wasnt the slowest thing either. SOOO do what your heart tells you bro.

skip that SER, it still has the stock manifold and has likely sucked parts of its pre-cat into the engine though the exhaust valves (sentras do that because they use exhaust cam phasing to act like an egr valve and suck gas back into the engine, and they're pre-cats break up all the time).

dude, run like hell, run run away, never ever ever ever ever buy anything from hawkeye auto or their affliate dealers. they will gladly rip you off, they are a bunch of low down scum licking @!#$s.

seriously get away from their lot.

i traded a truck there that was on its last leg the clutch was shot and it was missing on 6 of the 8 cylinders. it was traded with the sales man saying they were just going to scrap it. bull @!#$. before i even left the lot they put a price on it and pushed it over to the front row. and they want 3k for it. the vehicle we got from them made it to about the nursey there on 151 and shelled the engine. the dude at hawkeye said we were S.O.L.

go further down 151 into marion and go to affordable auto sales. i have gotten 3 cars from him, one for myself, my wife, and my sister, never had a real problem and when the escort we had developed a misfire 6 months later the guy at affordable said to take it to the ford dealer in des moines and get it fix then send him the bill. he covered it and gave us extra to cover the tow and the gas.

My buddy had a sentra and it was alway a reliable car for him. Take the car to a mechanic to have it looked over before you buy it.
Good luck and keep us posted.

I have heard a few people say not to buy from that dealership, so I'm going to listen to them and take American Henchman's advice and look at the other dealer down the road. Anyone have and input on a 2000 Celica GT or a 2003 Tiburon? Here are some links:
2003 Tiburon

2000 Celica GT

Tibs are nice and can be fast and reliable . Celica's No. My friend had one of the ones that dropped oil at 25k. lost the motor. No warning lights nothing. His parents where laywers he got a newer MR2. i had another friend who tried to make his a race car. He Built it beutifully. but three motors and 5 Trans later i don't they can be fast. My other friend had a show celica it was nice but like most cars they suck lowered. Stock they are great cars if they don't have the oil issue.

Skip the tib, while they're decent with the 6 cylinder and the 6 spd they have NO aftermarket thats worth a damn, no real tuning, and its still fwd, and the backseat is useless to anyone besides midgets.

And the Celica's not much better, you need to rev the @!#$ out of that engine to go anywhere.
