LS1 problems
Monday, May 31, 2010 11:54 AM
dad was out in the camaro (98 camaro LS1 automatic with 88k miles). started shifting hard and the traction control turned it self off. floored it to see if something was wrong. and it shifted at 2500 RPMS. tried to turn the traction control back on and it wouldn't turn on. and started shifting harder.

the Service Engine Soon light is always one because the o2 sensor is fried and has been for over a year

Sounds like a bad TPS based on the early shifting.

O noes!

Something is putting the PCM into a fail safe limp home mode...Sounds like an open or something is disconnected somewhere...

it could be the tps because when he bought the new throttle body he had to jb weld it on there. its acts up from time to time just not this bad. we'll check that out

and why would that be? apparently 17 years of being a mechanic in the military just isn't enough

Apparently not if he's hacking @!#$ together like that...

You asked a simple question and demonstrated the both of you being ignorant to the PCM's limp in Logic... So no 17 years in the military is not enough. Being a TECHNICIAN on AUTOMOBILES is just like being a doctor... Your out for 1 or 2 years without constantly furthering your education and your out... It's dog eat dog.

So your dad knows how to work on diesels woo hoo. No LS1 or any form of complicated fuel management there. If he was in say since 2003 maybe he dealt with a civilian chevy truck as part of the fleet, but based on your age i doubt it.
My dad is tits at tuning a carb but that doesn't mean he is a fuel injected master (FYI he is ASE certified, but you get my point)

my cav would do that when the IAT sensor wasnt working , the wires broke going into the plug , so the computer was thinking it was -46 degrees outside and was in its super cold mode

get the codes read , and from the sounds of it replace the o2 sensors too
