Well earlier this week I got to take a little trip south to inspect and drive the new LFA. First let me start that the LFA shall be leased for 2 years with the option of a purchase afterwards. Price will be around $375K. The theory is so people don't turn around and sell it for more the next day. Next, Lexus will pick their prospective customer, being wealthy is not the only prerequisite.
Engineering standpoint? Good lord there is ALOT of engineering involved here, down to the steering wheel, being the most centered in the auto industry. Radiators are mounted on the back, while engine is on front, so the hot air escapes through the grilles you will see on the pics. There is so much, that I will be here forever, lol.
Being outside, it is really something, and it is loud, I don't think it is as loud as the it's Italian competition, but the sheer sound is beautiful, and it is reminiscent to a F1 car. Oh, the engine is a collaboration with Toyota and Yamaha, and it is a clean sheet design. The car draws attention when you see it. Here, Toyota... err Lexus decided the function over form method and it is all purpose built. IMO it is not as sexy as a Ferrari, but I can appreciate a great machine.
In the car, at first I met 24hrs Lemans C5-R winner Scott Pruett, and he showed what the car can do at high speeds, we got at near 160mph, and the car felt stable, engine was serene, but the muffler, lets you know the car is flexing it's muscle. The car, for being a prototype, was well made. I got to drive in a road course and got it to a max of 70-80 mph. I placed it in "Sport" mode, and gauge moves left to right, turns red, and lets you know the redline is at 9K, it even gives me a stopwatch for elapse times. Transmission shakes you up a bit. What Scott told me although it is a paddle shift "auto," the car is a manual and works much the same as standard H tranny, here the solenoids are changing gears, not you and a leaver. So on the track, it was absolute perfect, being that it does not have gobs of torque (354 ft-lbs), it is easy to maneuver the car, with out breaking its tail and going into oversteer. I had to be careful as there are a handful around the world and only 2 are in the US now, the other is over in Europe, and two in Japan... all pre-production prototypes. So if you have near $400K and you're famous you'll have to wait until Dec to get one.
My final thoughts... price aside, the car is spectacular, reality check... . Well, common sense will steer you to Ferrari, Lambo, Z06/ZR1, Viper, GTR, Porche (for some). I don't think it worth it: for sure at $175-225K would have been more realistic to me, but with all the engineering, it negates the price, the kicker is Toyota will loose money on each. I would say you are paying for exclusivity. Hey... atleast it sounds nice.
Oh and before I forget, the Lexus LFA is not under the recall, trust me, I asked. lol
There was also a Lexus GS & IS show models, that you might like too.
Enjoy.

RIP JESSE GERARD.....Youll always be in my thoughts and prayers...
GTR is better, i see no reason why this car is more than a F430, its certainly not better
1989 Turbo Trans Am #82, 2007 Cobalt SS G85
That's the 5 Axis wide body IS from the auto show a couple years ago, hotest car I've ever seen, I have a bunch of real good pictures of it (minus the hand prints on it from dicks who can't respect peoples property, it was roped off for a reason!)
LFA looks amazing sitting still.
Wow.

I love GTR fanboys. Hey this car you can actually launch though without breaking a 20k tranny.

Have you driven one? If not, how do you know? Like Rabbit said, I'm sure they don't grenade trannies on launch. GTRs are nice don't get me wrong, but the z06 I drove was more fun to drive then the 2 different GTRs I've driven.
This thing is way overpriced, but they will sell because of limited production people will be buying them as a status kinda thing.
I saw the other LFA in the US at the Detroit auto show... Beautiful car... now if only i had the money =)
Wow, I'm shocked at how totally cool that looks in matte black. Is that going to be a featured color or was it just done that way as the demo version?

GTR is one hell of a car too. And I felt that it was on par with the LFA. But GTR is a electronics wonderland, it is almost like a simulator. LFA felt mechanical in it's feeling. That being said, remove all the electronics or turn off and run it basic, like a Viper. I will bet that great GTR will not inspire the confidence like the LFA does.
Don't get me wrong for one second, (2009 transmission issues aside) GTR is impressive, but the hardware in the LFA is even more impressive, that's the reason to get the LFA. But it should be lower just for competitiveness, not because it is not worth it.

It is being strongly considered, Lexus is asking focus groups if it should. The reps said there should be about two million combinations of exterior colors, interior colors, trims, options, etc to satisfy any one and still be unique. Bet that the matte finish will get the green light.

I did too. I saw it and was in love instantly
That is sex on wheels right there.
FORGET GIRLS GONE WILD WE HAVE GOVERNMENT SPENDING GONE WILD!
They had a white on display at the Detroit Auto Show, it was amazing
I don't care for them, but jesus christ does it look HOT in matte black.
I heard the reason for the price tag is there was so much R&D put into this car, took them like 9 years or something.
Also heard they are barely breaking even on each one sold even at that price point
ITs cool either way

i had heard they will lose money on eveyone they built.
well either way the Price being around $375K isnt so people don't turn around and sell it for more the next day.

I remember that car.
The LFA is pretty sweet, but my favorite is the
FT-HS concept.
