My mom is selling her LeSabre and wants something smaller, but with decent storage. I suggested vibe or hhr. Hates the hhr, so it's the vibe apparently. So how do these things ride? She doesn't care about performance, but wants decent merging traffic power

How can someone hate the HHR? /sarcasm What a homo ride this is.
As for the Vibe, I think the Vibe is great. My parents bought theirs brand new in 2005. They haven't got no problems with it, at all. The power is pretty decent, fuel economy isn't too bad either. Lots of room in the back.
They really like their car and I do to. They go on pretty long trips with it a few times a year and really like it.
I should of bought a Vibe instead of a Versa for commuter car. Very disappointed with this little bugger.
Good luck!

I got my '09 Vibe GT brand new back in April and I couldn't be happier with it. I would highly recommend the Vibe to anyone looking for a long lasting (they have Toyota engines, transmissions, etc.), fuel efficient, spacious, fun little vehicle.
My mom has an 06 Matrix, no complaints, rides now, has adjustable cargo area hold downs, hard plastic floor in the hatch area, cool looking interior everything lights up red. Nice car.
Yep. The Vibe and Matrix are the same car, minus the exterior and a few other minor things. Both great cars with proven long lasting reliability.
Had one for a work car when I worked at advance autoparts couple years back, its was comfy and no rattling noises like in a J

you got lucky cody. ours rattle like crazy, have no balls, terrible mileage, and frankly, are just plain ugly. however, j to envy, being the owner of a gt (not the base model) says these symptoms aren't there in her car. although, it could just be that ours are... well used.

My father has 2006 and he really like the car. He is the only owner and is as basic as it comes, 5-speed, no power win/dr-lcks. 50/50 mixed driving and he gets 34mpg. The car is really peppy. The ride is euro stiff, with minimal body-roll. The steering is direct, clutch engagement is light. The car has no rattles and it is drum tight. The only thing that he had was a water leak on the roof gutter in front of the rack. Oddly it was on the steel part. Silicon fixed it.
Overall it is a good and solid car.

My dad has one, and nobody can ever ride in it (shotgun, or backseat), without complaining about how uncomfortable it is.... probably the worst I've been in.

You guys must be about 7 feet tall than.
I couldn't be happier with the room in mine. Especially after I drive our Sunbird and I end up feeling like a sardine. When I look back now I don't know how I ever drove a lowered Sunfire.
The Wifey still wants one.....
Besides the serious lack of balls, it's a pretty useful car.
Granted, I've also seem some pretty big issues too with them....a few co workers run em'.........
When was the last time we heard of pretty big issues with a corolla?

On a side note, the '09-'10 2.4s share their engine with the Camry.
My sister drives a '05 Matrix and haven't really had any issues with it. I had driven it for about two years('06 to Aug '07) and loved the car. Especially during a couple trips to Devil's Lake State Park in Wisconsin, had so much fun driving it along an inclined switch back along the south entrance. Even my Grandfather(who is in his late '70's) enjoyed it the first year we went.
The only issue we have been having as of late is the TPMS light seems to always come on even when all the tires are properly inflated. The TPMS system on it is indirect, no sensors in the wheels.

Yes, the general consensus on GenVibe is that the TPMSs are useless and a huge PITA.
The '09-'10s have sensors in each wheel. Before I put my winter wheels on, my light had not come on once. Now it's on quite a bit due to the lack of sensors in the winter wheels, but after a while you don't even notice the light anymore
. It's really a hit and miss issue with the light being ornery.
