My brother is looking to get a new used 4 door car. He has been thinking of the Lincoln LS either v6 or v8 or the Cadillac CTS. Do any of you know which would be a
better buy. It will be used as a daily commuter car. The main thing it must be 4 doors. How well do the engines hold up on either car? Thanks for
any help that you all may have.
Oh...if you recommend other cars please post up!

If he's looking for a higher end 4 door, I would recommend a Honda or an Acura over a Lincoln or a Caddy, for better resale value and reliablity.
I absolutely adore the new Cadillac CTS's. Such an awesome car.
The fact that he is looking at two American luxury cars, leads me to believe a Honda isn't in the running. Don't know how many 09 cts you'll find though.

Resale value has got to be the lamest reason to buy a car ever.
does he necessarily need luxury RWD? how about the saturn aura, new malibu or impala, buick lacrosse (dont laugh they're nice). Dare i say new taurus sho?

I will mention to him about the Honda,Acura and even Toyota. He wants to stay pre-owned vehicle right now.

I'm assuming he want's something with RWD so that leaves those makes out of the question.
CTS would be my choice.
Specifically the 05 and up's with the 3.6.
Acura....either a TL or the TSX. If he's looking for a little sport, the TSX A-spec = sex on wheels. 3.5L V6, 6 speed manual, tons of torque, and boogies pretty good down the road. If I had the option I'd be in one now

Id rock the CTS, but tell him don't forget about the Infiniti G35 sedan

i like the ls..drove one a couple months ago..really nice car.
ive got an 05 CTS and love it, ive only had it 4 months now but so far its been a great car... im getting good mileage in the city around 500kms per tank and when i took it for a road trip this summer i got close to 600kms... interior is in my words beautiful its quite with the windows up or down, no rattles or squeeks(its got 89,300kms which is around 58,000 miles) and the outside is pure sexy i get tons of looks from people old and young... im biased but my pick is the CTS... i like the LS to but it just cant touch the CTS a buddy at work had one and his had 60,000kms on it and it rattled to @!#$ and got bad gas mileage even witht eh V6...

Those generation Lincoln's are boring as hell. Definitely don't get one of those. If we were talking about the new 2010 models that Lincoln is comin out with, now those I like.
Personally I'd check out the CTS-V if it's within his price range. I looked at this and the G35 sedan during my longgggg search. I also was looking for an entry level four door luxury sports sedan.

My parents had an 01 LS and they weren't huge fans. Had it for 3 years and it was balls in the winter. They went to an 04 CTS, and not have an 08 CTS. I've always liked the CTS more....
Nope.
What, no Volvo love around here? S40's are nice
! There's an 05 S40 5speed around me for $12,000 CDN..mmmmm, tasty

Resale value has got to be the lamest reason to buy a car ever.
How about resale value + reliability/quality + ease of ownership? I bought my 04 Accord EX with 76,000 and it now has 151,000. I've changed tires, front pads, spark plugs and battery....NOTHING else. I wouldn't hesitate to take it cross-country at the drop of a hat.
And yes...buying a car with resale value in mind IS a good idea. I rest easy knowing that my Honda, even with high miles, is worth more than almost any comparable domestic.
I'm not saying that its not a good thing to consider, I'm saying that going out and buying a car solely because it historically has high resale value is lame, unless your planning to dump it within a year for some reason. Quality, reliability and desirable features and performance are more important reasons to buy a car in my mind.
Some people don't buy cars to re sell. We pay for them, and drive them till they're dead.
My choice would be a CTS as well, even though I do like the look of the LS's and like mentioned above, what about the G35 Sedan? They're really nice.
Like thrice said wheres tythe volvo love. I personally own a 2007 s40 2.4i 5spd. I bought it sort of new (had 1500 on it when i bought it) its been a good car. Only complaints i have with it is mainly because the dealer broke parts for a warranty repair. Other than the normal oil changes and tires its been a good car. Ive driven the s60 volvos before and they are nice. Dont make the mistake I made with my volvo...get the turbo model.
