Some jackass on the cherokee forum is claiming that he knows of a 5.0 motor thats managing 29mpg. I would love some info or data to shut his diherria mouth up. I figure your the man to see.
Thanks,
Mike
If you are referring to the 5.0L from Ford it (could) happen for HWY mileage. But those could hyper mileage from the factory, not EPA certified. More legit info of this 5.0L from Ford will be available at the Los Angeles Auto Show in December.
If it is a Jeep engine, as of now there is no 5.0L Jeep engine in the works. Chrysler/Fiat is focusing on more fuel efficient engines.

I should have been more specific, sorry. He is talking about a 5.0 motor from a 92 stang, and putting it into a 96 cherokee. But claiming that while it was in the 92 vert stang which weighs about 3600lbs it was acheiving "29+ mpg". I subsequently called BS.
I was looking to see if you thought that was even possible
I would have to say no, unless he has done nothing but try to increase gas mileage out of it.
I have had 2 '89 Lincolns with the 5.0. One Town Car and one Mark VII LSC. Both averaged about 14-16 hwy.
This was also while working part time with gas prices hanging near $4.50.
Sucked. But I wish I never sold the LSC...
I figured i was especially considering that the explorer with the 5.0 only averages 14-18 mpg. The 5.0 in a jeep will do no better
