So what's the org think of the Jeep Patriot?

I like the way they look. Currently I have a Black Liberty Sport 3.7L. A lot of guys don't like them, but they look sharp in black with tint and everything. But anyways I'm looking to upgrade in the next year or so and want another smaller Jeep SUV. From what I can tell, though, they only come in 2wd or full time 4wd. That really sucks because I like being able to switch between the two like I can right now. Then again, it's not the bodystyle I'd really want to make an off road machine so I'd probably slame it . I have a bogger anyways lol.

I like wranglers, but not into them personally enough to buy one. I love my liberty but the new body style is fugly and too boxy, so I might just get a newer model the same body style as my 02 and use the saved over money to actually buy some suspension, wheel, and engine upgrades.

I think they are a jeep version of the Dodge Calibur so they (technically) are not an SUV at all. Just a tall car with FWD or AWD. The Jeep Patriot is basically the Jeep equvilant of an HHR or PT Cruiser.
It's not an upgrade...as you said. Coming from a Liberty, a Patriot is a downgrade. Look at other small SUV's There are much better trucks than the Liberty. Ford Escape is a very nice vehicle, so is the Suzuki Grand Vitara. I looked at both of those before buying the Edge. I loved them and they are very high quality. I just needed a bit more room to haul stuff so i couldn't use either of them.

If you're just tinting it out and doing some bad weather driving i say Ford Escape. If you're doing all that AND some mild off roading you'd be crazy not to look at the Suzuki, i was reallt impressed with it and never thought they were as good as they are. plus 10 year/100,000 mile warranty FTW.

Sorry, but I'm one of those ignorant stubborn guys that likes to stick to select brands lol. And everytime I am having a bad day and am getting down in the dumps, I look at a ford escape and realize that I could of got stuck with one of those instead of my jeep, and I realize how grateful I should be because things could be worse...

You feel better that you own a Liberty over an Escape?
hmm, to each their own i guess.
But something to think about, Ford didn't go bankrupt twice for building garbage.

Owning a 05 Liberty I do not think I could move to a Patriot. At times I think about how the liberty is small and then when I see my neighbors Pat. it makes it look huge. I really dont think a ford escape to be a better choice as well and I agree with you that every time I see one iit makes me feel better inside knowing I picked my Jeep.

Liberty / Compass = both crap. PURE crap. Chrysler was giving them away back in December. Shoddy interiors, weak drive trains, and poor styling. They sell on the name, which is the last reputable one Chrysler's got under their belt. (They were being discounted to employee's at one point in Windsor for 14k Canadian)

Why do you think a Liberty is better than a Escape??? Because it's a Jeep? Only in name is a Liberty a Jeep. All the disrespect and dislike of the Jeep Liberty is because just exactly like the Ford Escape, the Liberty's off-road skills are weak. My $2000 Geo Tracker has more true off road worthiness than a Jeep Liberty. Just exactly like the Ford Escape it's a uni-body soccer mom SUV, the only reason to use the 4WD in the Liberty would be to drive through snow. Take it on a real off-road trail like Jeep claims it can handle and you'll find first hand what the term "false advertising" is. Trail Rated is a marketing gimmick...it means nothing. And a trail rated Liberty means pretty much nothing. So why would a weak sauce, cheaply built, piss poor off-road wannabe Jeep be any better than a Weak sauce, much better made, piss poor off-road wannabe Ford?

A Jeep Liberty gets disrespect and is disliked because, just like the equally weak Ford Escape it's all image and no substance. It makes me think of that scene in the movie "Cars" where the drill Sargent jeep put those SUV's through off road boot camp and the Hummer cries out "aw man, I got dirt on my rims". a Liberty is a great Jeep for girls fresh out of College.

A Jeep Patriot is even more of a poseur, a car with a lift kit and the Jeep name slapped on it. That is the God honest truth, It literally is a Dodge Caliber with a lift kit. So as it was said it's not an upgrade it's a huge step down. If you think an Escape is joke then how bad is it that you think a Patriot which is even less reputable than the Escape is a better car? At least the Escape CAN off-road...the calib---oops...Patriot i mean is a joke.

If you don't own a Wrangler, you don't own a Jeep, you own an image...period.

A.) I'm glad a few people see eye to eye with me on the Ford Escape.
B.) I'm not looking for a truck to drive around the woods with, I'm in college.
C.) I have a bogger, though it's not street legal, it competes in the local mud bogs every year. That's enough for me.
D.) About image, well the jeep is the perfect size for what I need right now, as well as it gets good enough gas mileage for how much I drive, and it has four doors which is nice for putting DJ gear and sound equipment in and out of the car. And obviously I needed something with a decent cargo bay that also lets me put down the back seats. And out of all my picks that met these needs, the Jeep Liberty was the only one that looked asthetically pleasing to me. So yes I completely agree that I wasn't buying a wrangler, but I was buying something else with the jeep image.
E.) on that note, unless you're buying a performance or luxury sedan (think wrx, 300c, g8, etc...), I think that jeep has the best looking 4-door midsize vehicles as far as the overall line up goes period. GM, I agree are quality built vehicles and are sharp, but they almost look too plain and don't have an "edge (for lack of a better term)" to them.

A 4-door wrangler with a hard top has more cargo space than the Liberty, even more with the back seats folded, even more yet with the top off. And they cost nearly the same and get roughly the same mpg's.

I understand that you like the wrangler, and it's the best at what it does and I hope you get one, but like I said I'm just not interested in it.

haha well I would have to say offroad my Liberty has taken me places I shouldnt have gone.

Now is it unstoppable no but dont dog until your out in one.

I love my Liberty its the perfect size and has everything i would need. I can tow my boat and camper.

The only thing I wish was different is that i wish it would get better MPG but I have a heavy foot so its not a huge deal.

Try driving the wrangler all winter its going to be cold plus having AC and all the creature comforts in the world you can't go wrong. Personally though I agree with a few of the posts that the new Liberty is to boxy looking but its 10x better then an Escape. I just can't believe a guy would say that they would rather drive the escape over the liberty.

Thanx Charles

Personally I totally dig the Patriot, it looks like a modernized Cherokee. I live where roads are asphalted, so to me it does not mean squat it is not a off-roader. Besides it has 8'' of ground clearance, which is handy for floods when there is a quick downpour.
Over the summer, Chrysler sent me to small press launch, and for 2010 they improved on the interior, with more padding and more shiny bits, it does not look like a Rolls-Royce, but overall it is improved. They also told me that the manual will be standard with the 2.0L to up mileage. Yes, it is a Caliber, but at least IMO it looks attractive.

i am also with you and like the patriot looks.

I dont like the fact it dont have the trailer hitch. ( at least the ones i seen didnt have one).

But for a small 4x4, i would rock it.

My sister in law has a compass, i like it. been good to her so far.

i own a 09 jeep compass rallye, when i was looking for something new I looking for a small suv that was good on gas and would get me through winters. I'm used to driving a lowered cavalier so anything with a little ground clearance would be a huge improvement.
I love my compass, it gets decent gas mileage, i can carry a ton of stuff in it and it was very resonably priced. Obviously its not meant for serious offroading, but if you are looking for a entry level suv it may be perfect for you. I can fit my dog and 5 passengers comfortably, and it has more leg room then my brother in laws jeep grand cherokee and a better looking interior then my fathers toyota rav4.
can't hurt to test drive it and see what you think.
