lookin for others experience...
the wife and i are looking at gettin rid of the fire and getting a CX7 (i'd be drivin the 2000 passat 1.8t). we've gone on two (fairly) short test drives (short cuz it pisses us off that the sales person has to go along for some reason!?) anywho, have any of you owned/own/or ride in a couple times??? what did you all think? likes dislikes?
also, is there a website where you can look up a vehicle to find pros/cons (mostly cons) that other owners have experienced??
thanks!
If it has the same 2.3 turbo engine as the Mazdaspeed 6 then you might have some nasty turbo issues. Thats about all I have to add and that is based off of what I have read.
HAHA,next time you test drive a car and the salesman wants to go,just ask while driving,Hey whats this car governed at?And if he doesn't know, find out lol.I did that to a fat slob at a ford dealership, i was test driving a focus svt and a 125 mph later, he says slow down there might be cops over one of these hills.Sorry but if I'm gonna buy a car,I'm gonna test drive it like i own it,that's just me thou,so back to thread.
Disclaimer don't try this at home.
Me and my wife looked at buying a CX-7. We liked it alot ride wise and interior wise.
The engine and super low rpm it takes to spool the turbo was a big dissapointment. It is way to easy to rear end another car with the thing. It made me nervous because you hardly tap the throttle and it takes off quickly. In stop and go driving if you are not much more attentive than with any other car you could easily rear end somone one. What is more is that it does not fel like you took off fast. It is one of those cars where you will take off when the light turns green faster than everyone else consistently without even trying. Say you are the second car in line at a red light. With most cars you can just glance at the car in front of you and be able to give your car just the right amount of throttle so that you maintain a good distance and don't run right up on their ass. Not with the CX-7. It spooked me becuase it is way to easy to run right up on them. This is not a good car for anyone who is a very attentive driver. Unless you are used to giving yourself a very generous distance between you and the car in front of you when coming to a light it is not a good car for you. I can't stress the point enough this is not a good car for the average female driver.
So it gives you the impression it is faster then it really is because it takes so little effort to get moving. Since the turbo is designed to spool insanly quick it has very little top end and it's horsepower numbers reflect that. You feel it too. If you actually get a chance to floor it and hold it for a few seconds you might be dissapointed because judging from the low rpm you expect more than it has in the top end. The best way I can descibe it is it feels like the turbo literally fizzles out or runs out of breath.
If they had given it the same turbo and TQ/HP curve of the speed 6 then it would have been a winner

Yeah...not so sure where you got that from? The Speed6 (as well as the Speed3 which is the same thing, detuned a bit) have NO turbo issues whatsoever! There have been cases of blown motors in the 6's and 3's that is believed to be cause by a balancer that is mounted to the bottom of the engine under cylinder 3. I don't know for sure if this is included in the CX7 but my guess would be that it is. There's really no explanation to why this happens but in the rare cases it does, Mazda's warranty more than backs the $6g full replacement.
Anyway, my fiancee's parents have one in Black Cherry Mica and it's a really nice ride. My first thoughts are it looks sick outside and the interior is phenomenal. My only complaint is the leather isn't as soft as the seats in my 6
Wade is right though, it does take a while to get used to the throttle control but it's not so bad once you drive it for awhile. I have no doubt you'd love it if you decided on one. I actually almost came home with one until I saw my car on the lot lol.

I found it on multiple forums where people were have lots of problems with the turbo seals failing or just a turbo failure in general.
