I washed, clay-bared, and waxed the HHR for winter. I love GM paint. Fail....
Smooth as glass......looks like orange peal out the ass.
Look at the last two pics....

Yes, because every other car manufacturer makes their paint absolutely perfect from the factory /sarcasm. The HHR looks good, but you'd find orange peel on other cars as well unless you buy a higher-end car (Corvette, Mercedes, BMW).

yes, I agree, every lower end car has orange peel, but it just seems like my HHR has A LOT more than any other car I have ever owned.

"Yours was painted on Friday." :-p
Personally I <3 GM paint.
Besides there was study done (I think Subaru or something around them) that said orange peel paint contributes to aerodynamics, think golf balls.

LoL @ Mercedes making good paint/ or paint job. When I worked there, they were no better then a Mitsubishi.

Out of all the cars that come through our shop, GM has some of the better paint quality finish then most i've seen.. import companies seem to have the worst orange peel.. of course i'm not talking BMW, but like the lower class Hondas, etc.. Ford can be terrible about it as well.. The higher end cars do have orange peel, but are sanded and buffed more so before getting sold. Mostly the top panels like hood, roof, trunk, tops of bumpers are sanded and buffed, the panels most customers only would be able to see on a daily basis walking by.. all the panels facing downward or sideways are harder to notice orange peel on so they leave them as is, which leads to you being able to see sometimes they have some terrible peel as well..
just saying
Mike Robots paint cars, its supposed to be flawless LMAO
Yours still look shiney though, love it.

You only have to look at it that way until it falls off, like mine did. I wish mine looked that good again.
Seriously I think Honda has probably the worst paint of any vehicle.

waxing regularly actually takes orange peel down quite bit over time. just keep at it.

^^no it doesn't brad... unless its abrasive.. you need to actually remove clear to reduce the orange peel.. like buffing or wet-sanding and buffing.. waxing alone will not.

Only if you apply it with a 800 grit sandpaper. lol
LOL @ GM paint, My '05 Cobalt SS had a massive clear coat drip AND a Human Hair in the rear tail light area. Wish I took a picture of it.
Oh, this is including some of the worst orange peel I've ever seen....And yes most mass produced vehicles have equally sh-tty paint jobs.

lol mine seemed to reduce. mother's California gold....
technically you are buffing the paint when you rub the residue off... like i said... it takes quite a bit to do anything. ive waxed my car more times than i can count. the orange peel has definitely reduced since i got the car ad its ever been buffed or sanded.
but yes.. you are pretty much correct. it takes more rubbing than any average person is willing to do. wet sand and buff it if you really wanna get after it.

no... maybe you built up enough wax to make it harder to see, but adding a layer of a product on top of it will not bring down the peaks in the clear. Sorry to point out your wrong-ness again Brad.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

Odds are it had been repaired before..
Yeah.. I saw a mercedes S class (S65 amg actually) and it had orange peel out the ass. I was askin our body shop guys about it and they said they dont wetsand/buff it anymore because it makes the paint very brittle and likely to crack . You're gonna see orange peel on any car really, it's hard to find a happy medium.
Lol at hair.
Overal, GM paint isn't so bad. I think they do the bumpers differently now. The colour match is never right.
Generally the clear is pretty thick on GM cars. A great finish is possible. I have seen miracles happen with some wetsanding and buffing.
I find Mazda's have the worst Orange peel. (From my detailing days). ANd by seeing how many Protege's on the road are rusting compared to other vehicles of the same age.. IT goes to show.

I looked at my AMG benz today while I was pumping gas and was horrified by the peel. I always knew it was there, I just never bothered to look at it. Thanks for ruining my day.

I had the car 'Built' in early '05, it had 22 kms on it. It was GM paint all the way.
