Thinking about purchasing a 05 BMW 745li
Saturday, August 08, 2009 6:56 AM
Its time for another car. I have two kids and the Cav has just grown too small. However, I'm going to be keeping the cav as a toy, but I need something more spacious with lots of comfort to boot. Also, I just love the look of these cars and some staggered 22's would look great on it.

Anyone have any experiences with these cars and how much damage would I be looking at as far as maintenance? Can anything be done to this car without taking it in to the dealer ie: brakes or oil. (I'm worried about this the most).

All suggestions are welcome. I'm just feeling this out.

LOL

All in all I NEED something bigger. This is just want I actually want. I can afford it, but maybe there is something out there that can be more economical. The BMW 7 series has always my dream car luxury wise.

I may look into some SUV's too, but this is my first choice.

Sounds nice. Don't forget your other expenses like registration, ad valorem, insurance, etc etc. Also, do some research on a 745 specific forum to see if there are any "known" issues where it might be good to have an aftermarket extended warranty. Some of these are option specific too (for example, some MB's have navigation reprogramming issues....so get one without navi lol). You can also check into how to do your brakes and oil changes. Don't forget most people who buy expensive cars like that are normally yuppies that don't do any DIY and go to the dealer to get their maintenance. And then either brush it off (because they have $) or complain over and over about how expensive it is, yet are too much of a pansy to learn how to do it themselves. But don't forget not everything will be DIY and there are some cases where you will have to fork out the $ to let the pros do it.

Look into a Benz CLS 500-550

Beautiful machines , test drove one and omg its a very "look at me car" epically with the AMG package.. Im pretty sure the interior of the 745 is a bit larger but the Benz could be another option if your looking in the mid 30s

Being a real AMG owner, I hate the AMG appearance packages

Hey, I love MB's. So I'm definitely going to look into your recommendation.

I drove a 540i with a 5-speed and M series package once..... was a damn nice car and fun to drive..... although the steering response and road feel was non existent...

Thats my experience with BMW's....

I'm sad to say that the CLS is a tad out of my budget LOL.

Very attractive cars though.
