Did GM do any R&D before going out to the market?
Since there are a few Camaro owners here, thought it would be helpful that you all know this.
Chevrolet sent this official statement to the new Camaro fans over at Camaro5.com regarding the issue:
"Here's our statement on the matter:
Our engineering team is reviewing data related to the performance of the manual transmission on the Camaro SS, and have temporarily stopped shipment of this model to the dealers.
This only impacts Camaro SS models with manual transmission in production. Camaro SS with automatic transmission, and Camaro LS and LT models are not affected and will continue to be shipped to dealers.
Since this is an "in production" review, we are NOT requesting vehicles be returned for any service or dealer deliveries stopped as a result of this action."
As noted, GM has not issued a recall yet and all other Camaro models, including all V-6 models and the automatic transmission-equipped V-8 models, are not being investigated and are not affected by this problem. Because the Camaro uses the same Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual transmission as the Corvette and several other high-powered sports cars, it's likely that this problem stems from a bad run of gearboxes, not an engineering defect, and will likely only affect a handful of cars.
As Chevrolet has just begun investigating the issue, no announcements have been made yet about how to deal with or avoid the issue or how to get it fixed. Until this matter is sorted out, we'd recommend that anyone driving a manual transmission Camaro SS take it easy and avoid hard launches, just to be safe. Those who haven't taken delivery of their manual transmission cars yet will also have to wait a bit longer, but given the popularity of the car, it's likely GM will get shipments restarted as soon as possible.

Good luck with "avoiding hard launches". Isn't that one of the main reasons to buy an SS?
That is NOT the statement they posted on 5thgen.org.
They advised to not launch / pop clutch at over 6,000RPMs.
And they are having a supplier problem with brittle gear teeth if I remember correctly.....at least that is what they lead everyone to believe. I trust the engineers explaining the problem more then PR.

if GM gave tremec the specs they needed on the trans , or tremec said the trans will hold X amount of power , and the trans got built wrong , or a bad batch of gears got made , thats not on GM , thats on tremec
and had nothing to do with R&D of the car itself
thats sad cause in the end GM is still gonna take the bad rap for it like it has so many times in the past with outsourcing parts.
and you know damn well no amount of sueing is going to recover thier reputation. that same reputation that they have been trying to get back since the ball got dropped on outsourcing parts that failed several times in the 80's
and why the heck did american companies stop outsourcing from borg-warner. the t-5, t-45, and t-56 were all beast transmissions

Looks like you all don't know this bit of info... What ignorance can do to ya.
Being that the transmission is already out on the Corvette "like the memo said," not to mention in Vipers and F-bodies, V-series. The difference that the new Camaro has that the other cars doesn't is new for 2010 Launch Control
If you don't know what the f-uck it is or how it works, then look here.

This is why GM is telling owners to not drop clutch it. And being that Camaro was the first to use this L-C system on the Tremec it is only fair to assume that R&D was not fully finished.

I keep seeing SS's with manual's delivered at work. We can't keep them in stock. When does this take effect?
Ignorance is lack of knowledge. He used the word 100% in context. I don't see why you are crying about it?

Next time you might want to include that in a post, rather than posting up information that contradicts itself.
You're right, I don't know what the launch control is, because I haven't read up on the new Camaro that much. Had you put that little tid bit about it being the first car with the new launch control with your statement about the R&D, it would have made more sense.
Now run along and feel good about yourself that you called people ignorant (yes, obviously intended as an insult, so don't claim you were using it strictly in it's true meaning), and could point out that they didn't know something.
Seriously
That's what you get following me like a lap dog. Like I told you in the past, if you have an issue with me: go and talk to Allah or someone who cares. Don't clutter a thread with your stupid $hit.

ill have to say that is 100% bull dookie !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the LC system , makes quick hard take offs easier on the drivetrain , NOT HARDER
plus the tremec is supposed to be better than the T56 , and i know alot of people that beat the hell outta stock T56's with motors in the 600-850whp range

No joke.
In theory, it works similar to what the Nissan GTR and so many other high performance machines have but only in a manual.

well we are still launching the @!#$ out of ours. already did the first 100 foot burnout in the thing. and EASILY AND I MEAN EASILY holds a 2nd gear burnout
no issues. if it breaks. warranty fixes. not an issue here...

isnt this the same thing the cobalts and hhr's have ?
or did they try and make something a little more idiot proof ? lol
"plus the tremec is supposed to be better than the T56 , and i know alot of people that beat the hell outta stock T56's with motors in the 600-850whp range"
Tremec made the T-56. The T-6060 replaces it.
Yeah I thought it was funny that someone said that Tremec's transmission is better than the T-56, when the T-56 is also a Tremec transmission.

The output shafts are breaking, according to the camaro forums.
Seems like bad parts, not lack of R&D.
