What do you want/need your SUV for?

I like the Denali and the Tahoe/

I'm thinking about getting a SUV soon as well. Kids and Cavaliers don't mix too well.

I really like the Yukon's, the Denali's look to luxury for me and I'd be worried about wrecking everything while I'm off roading.

What year range are you looking at??

I have a 2002 Chev Tahoe LT 4x4 thats LOADED i LOVE it best investment ever. mine has the 5.3 and 3.73 posi rear and gets around 23mpg with the few mods i have (intake, TB Spacer, 06+ Efan swap and tuned PCM) it got 18mpg before that.

I like the newer style model not sure what years they started. I may use it in the future for towing seadoo. other than that right now it would just be a daily driver.

It can tow up to 3500lbs and seats 7. For it's size and what it is, fun to drive, I was impressed.

My 01 tahoe drives like a charm.

That is after I spent a TON on shocks.(premium smoothride) The rears list for 750 in Canada. 450 in the US....lol.

Stay away form the autoride(air compressor)

I would not tow anything with a unibodied vehicle.

I purchased the Bistiens. OEM part. They are for the premium smoothride to match my rear springs. You can buy lesser shocks that physically fit, but are valved for different springs.

NO real issues other than the price of the shocks and the warnning against autoride. I believe the list for a compessor is over 1000.

Every engine I have heard piston slaps like no other on cold startup. Once warm, no prob. I have known 5.3's to last well over 400,000km with the same problem. I'm not worried, but if you heard my truck, cold, eeeeesh!!!

Rear glass is mondo expensive. 1000 in Canada. Good thing my insurance covered it without deductable.

e-fan with tune to match is a great idea for saving fuel. I think the 04 or 05's got it.

Otherwise, I'd buy another if I needed to. Tough machine. Awesome winter vehicle!!!!!!!!! If you want something that drives like a modern car, it's not for you. It's simply a solid GM truck.

so does the AWD in the escalade in denali '07+ burn more gas that the others that can be switched to 2wd

unless you're going to get one with the 6-speed auto (I think 08 or 09 for SUVs, 09 for CC trucks and '10 for the rest) I'd look in to the previous body style, but an 05/06/07 classic. For gas mileage its a truck/suv, expect 10-18 no matter what. The piston slap mentioned by craig is an extremely common issue for the previous body style 99-06, but I have never heard of it causing problems at all. The issues surrounding that seem to have been resolved in the newer body style; we actually had a bit of a 'case study' in my CAD class and went to one of the places that helped figure out where the problem was.

I'm in the process of trying to buy a fullsize truck/suv myself. silverado, sierra, tahoe, yukon, denali, escalade... first one I find that has an LQ9 6.0 in it and is in decent shape I'm snatching it up.

good luck man. I cant wait to get back in to one, I love driving them.

always thought these were sexy and would love to get one when I grow up and dont wanna fast car anymore

'05 GMC Yukon Denali

if you're not commited to GM, these are really nice as well. Volkswagen Touareg

or if you're not looking to spend as much money.. Volkswagen Tiguan

but like stated before, it all depends on what you're wanting it for... towing bug sh*t, carrying around a soccer team of kids... or just a mud-slinger. if its the latter, I wouldnt suggest anything new.. or even new-ish. get a Silverado and have at it

my question about the AWD feature in the '07+? denali/escalide since u cant do do 2wd mode. does it actually burn more fuel -is there a drag in the system?
