I'm thinking about buying a new car. I have no car payments and can afford a used Evo or STI. I'm really torn between an Evo or an STI. Been looking at a lot of them. I like the looks of both exterior wise, interior is about the same. There is one thing that turns me off on each. I've heard the STI is a lot more reliable than the evo. The thing that turns me off more than anything about the STI is the engine bay. It just looks so cluttered and horrific under there.
This is a small detail but its a big deal for me. I've never boughten myself a new car...something real nice and sporty. I'm looking at probably an Evo 8.
I like the STi more then the EVO but the EVO definitely has a big advantage in being easier to work on.
Inline 4 > flat 4
Yea, at this point I'm really leaning toward the Evo. Just curious as what people had to say about each.
Not a big deal but I heard the Evo's have really tiny gas tanks. My bro owned a 05 STi and it was amazing. The 2.5L flat 4 has a lot of TQ, and the trany is really good on the STi. But I would still probably buy an Evo for reasons listed above. And because subies are every where here in the pacific northwest.

I have to agree, the burble of the subies sounds fantastic and is so distinctive, yet I've always been a fan of the evo's look over the sti's. If I was looking to purchase a new car right now, it would be an Evo

Seems like a good mixed review here. I do love the sound of the STI. Sounds pretty sexy lol..
I have an X... I love it. Got mad love for the STIs too though. I don't think you can go wrong with either unless it's really beat.
I love the looks of both.
The sounds of the subaru is amazing. I have heard the interiors of the evos aren't top notch.
%Y&^ it buy both
Lanman31337 -F = fatties = do not want. A little chunk in the junk is ok though.
Yea, been doing a lot of browsing forums. I'm pretty set on the Evo VIII. We'll see when I get home. I'm really digging an all black 8.
look at sig.....nuff said
there can be clutch and transfer case problems but it has more potential with a tune than the sti does, when u go to buy make sure it hasnt been molested in any way, which is hard to find but i got lucky. and go with the 8 their cheaper but dont have ACD, and put a 9 turbo on it
Kill list:03 eclipse, 06 GTO, 04 Mach 1 Mustang
If I upgrade turbo it wont be with a stock 9 kit, lol. Go big or go home. I can't really see upgrading a turbo to grab a few more HP. I know what you mean though. I've read about the clutch and am well aware of that. It wouldn't be too big of a deal for me though. I'll do the work myself and I don't care what car it is I'll end up upgrading clutch as I want to get back into auto x. The car will stay stock besides a cat back more than likely so I can stay in the stock class for auto x until I get back into it and get use to the car.
I've been working a lot with Top End USA and actually started working for them. So I get all my parts at whole sale. Which helps. I don't save a ton of money but every little helps.
Both have huge aftermarket support. So that's really a draw. Both come from a strong heritage of rally racing, although the sti is known for having a better AWD drivetrain at least as far as putting up with the abuse. Pro subie IMO.
These vids would make me choose a subie, but again its a matter of opinion
This video might make you cream a lil
Check out the launch
STi even though around where i live the Evos are FAR less comon.
But i would take either lawl
STi, all the way. You just can't beat the sound of that flat four. Especially through Borla pipes.
