Buying a "new" car.
Tuesday, June 16, 2009 5:48 PM
I've got my eye on an 05' Grand Prix, a 2002 LeSabre, and a 2004ish Trailblazer.

Can't make up my mind. I've driven all three of them, but never owned a large vehicle before. Anybody have one of these....or your parents/ grandparents?

What trim level is the Trailblazer?

I would prefer that over the other two, but personally it all depends on what package it is.

They all 3 are pretty decent cars. The LeSabre would be more cozy and comfortable. I just like the feel of the Trailblazer myself.

I have a 2008 Grand Prix. 35k on it, runs good, comfortable. I am happy with it. I did change the spark plugs on it this past weekend, it is difficult to get the 3 in the back of the motor.

My dad has an 02 buick lesabre, had it since 03 or so I believe. I dont believe he has had any problems with it in the 6 years or so he has had it. They have the 3800 in them (same as grand prix's. Definately not my taste but very dependable cars.

My last roommate had a 05 trailblazer, don't know much about them. He didnt have any problems with it that I knew of.
I looked at a 04 T.B before I found my car, I just didnt want to spend that much on a vehicle that old.

My dad has an '02 Grand Prix GT, bought it new. It's been quirky, had some problems. At one point, the headlights would only work with the HVAC set on high. Yep, that's right. Quirky. He's replaced a window motor as well, but that's to be expected with a GM. Broken wheel hub too that took FOREVER to get diagnosed by multiple mechanics because it happened at the same time he put on new aggressive tires & they told him that he should expect noise. He's got somewhere around 120,000 miles on it, he told me the mileage the other day & I forget, but it's around there. It's really comfy & roomy, can get up & go! He's your typical old man driver, going slow in front of you and taking FOREVER to get in & out of parking spaces at stores. He babies this thing & gets close to 30mpg. It is a really nice car, I'd probably still get one despite the problems my dad has had with his.

grand prix is the overall consensus so far and i must agree, it does depend on the trim of that and the trail blazer though, you talking LTZ and/or SS?

The LeSabre I'm looking at is black. The Grand prix wasn't a GT, just a base model. not sure about the TB, but it was 4wd, cloth seats. I really don't care much about options honestly. I'm fine with a/c, and power windows/locks, + cruise control. Couldn't give a platypus's nut for gps, heated lumbar doodads.

Keep mpg in mind. Gas is cheap now, but how long will that last? TB gets considerably less mpg than the other 2. Almost 10mpg difference on the highway.
