Friday, June 05, 2009 10:41 AM
So i brought my Nova home Sunday and started ripping her apart.

Interior is 100% Gutted
The front end is held on by 6 bolts will all come out tomorow then the straight 6 and powerglide come out.
Should be V8 Swap and running by the end of the month.
I have been collecting parts for this car for 3 years so time to get crackin!!

here are some pics

swapped out the POS fake cragars and put in 14x6 ralleys on the front and 15x7 on the rear i have brand new 15x4 cragars and 15x7 or a full set of 15x7 ralleys

completed pics will be almost identical to this

Here is a update the entire front end is off. Now i just have to unhood the rad and cables and the engine is out.

Tommorow's agenda (should be cleaning the Z24) but i think i am dropping the coolant pulling the rad. Pulling the rad support and unpluging the rest of the engine and drive shaft.

Poly Urethane engine and tranny mounts were just ordered and will be in Monday so the 355 Small block can go in next weekend

ohhh ohhh!!! how i remember these times... looks like a very nice project, man.

my dad and i did a 70 over the past ten years or so... originally was a 6 car as well. now its a 396.

been painted etc, just been siting for years un-finished. dont ask me why it just pathetic. neither of us are too bizy to do it either. one of the main things that escapes us is putting the front windows back in the doors. when you take yours out i dont spose i could trouble you for some pictures before you do so? possibly a small what-to-do list for putting em back in? thanks.

I'm tired of wasting my time... now I'm breakin' free.

Sweet project.

What are you going with for a tranny? Sticking with the PG, or going with a TH350, TH400?

Haha sweet project... reminds me of my old '72 El Camino =)

i have a fully built TH350 with a neil chance 3500 stall converter. should work nicely with the new rear end i have that is a 4:11 Posi. The engine is a pretty mild 355

i actually just traded the stock power glide for a Stock 70 Nova SS disc brake setup and the V8 Mounting brackets for the power steering.

I lol'd when I saw the inline 6

and I hate you..... I want to get a 72 nova myself and hop it up.... (they dont go for much and you can do anything to them you can do to a regular muscle car.... and they weigh less)

Nice find...... I really need to start reading my local auto trader.... good luck with the build man..

Just out of curiosity, if your engine is a mild build, why are you going with the 4.11 gears? That's usually better for something with more top end. If you haven't already done the gears, I might consider 3.73, as is would be a little more streetable on a TH350.

Nice score on the swap for the PG.

as for the 4.11 i bought the complete rear end complete and it had a 4.11 posi it will be fine i am putting 255/70/15 tires on the rear. the car should still run low 13 high 12s but thats just a mild 355 my old drag car had a little more sever 355 went 11.3 with 4.33 and 28" tires

Here is how she sits as of right now. straight 6 pulled subframe all cleaned up read for blasting, got out my rear end to blast it aswell.

got a little side tracked and got dads dragster running OMFG amazing

couple pics of dads project first is a 1973 Camaro Z28 with AC just ready for paint 2nd is his 69 nova 327 4 geat he just brought up from texas

heres a couple pics to show how much of NOVA fanatics my father and i are

I would aim for something like Jay Leno's, without the stripe:

I like the 70-72 with Cragars or Corvette Rallys 15 inch front and rear.

The 66-72 Nova was a great car. Light, simple, efficient. The chassis is the same as the 67-69 Camaros.
That car represents the end of the era when GM ruled the world. Great choice for a project.

Leno's Yenko Duece Nova

yeah they have the same front subframe rear end and rear suspension as a 67-69 camaro very good starting point

I'm in love with that.

I've always wanted to build a muscle car with a Webber down draft setup and 8 velocity stacks sticking out of the hood. That engine is very close.
