So since I moved to Florida, I have had some time and money to do some things to my Kia.
A lot of people say why bother...its a Kia. Well a lot of people said that about the Cavalier too.
So in the states the car was majorly detuned to meet a board standard for Cali Emissions. The result was a 138/145hp SULEV car.
I found a company that will reflash the ECU to non SULEV specs.
Then I got my hands on a non SULEV Intake Mani and had a company called Compant Divisions do some work on it.
Intake is chemically cleaned of all oils and contaminants.
Throttle Body side bored to 61mm diameter.
Intake ports are matched just under the size of the Gasket for proper flow.
Manifold runners and plenum acid etched to remove excess material. This process removes a very even and consistent amount of material for increased volume and flow.
I'd like to get an AirRam intake Mani, but those are getting increasingly hard to find.
Purchased a Tri Flow 70mm throttlebody, has the option of running it at 60mm, 65mm or 70mm. 60 for N/A, 65 for N/A with cams, or 70 for boosted applications.
I am currently running the 60mm option.
Also have a K&N short ram intake.
All in all it cost me a little over $800.
I dyno'd before I did anything to it and car actually pulled off 133 fwhp.
Just dyno'd it yesterday after the changes and some fine tuning and pulled off 157.2 fwph
More stuff coming, so updates to follow.
Good for you. Nice to see people doing non-typical cars. Pics? I'd like to do an elantra myself.

So that thing in your profile about it staying stock is a big fat lie, right?
I can't say I'm a Kia fan, but 24 WHP for $800 is not bad out of a 4 banger with what are essentially factory parts. There is a guy here that has a Kia Sportage running a 125 wet shot of Nitrous. Last year he was taking down Camaros and 'Stangs at the strip.

Theres a guy down here with a supercharged, and nitroused Sportage well into the 300whp range on the stock block.

I can just imagine the look on someone's face when they get smoked by a Kia Sportage...

Yeah, I just can't wait to see the looks on some faces after I get everything installed that I just ordered.
That and some well needed weight reduction should put me into the high 13's...at least that is what I'm hoping for.
Hook it up with some nitrous

What are your plans for weight reduction? I can't say I know is they make CF body bits for a Spectra5...

Seibon makes a carbon fiber hood. There are also a few companies in Korea that make carbon fiber interior pieces.
If I continue with the car the way I have been, then I will probably be grabbing up something else for a daily, then I will strip the interior, get lightweight racing seats, a nice set of lightweight wheels and go from there. Sure I can easily get the car down to around 2200 lbs

Wow. That is damn light. You need a badge/sticker with "KDM yo!" on it for all the CF you'll be overnighting from Ja...err Korea. I'll never get used to saying that.

I don't see why it wouldn't be achievable, it weighs roughly 2,800 lbs as it sits, 3,016 with me in it and a full tank of gas. I'll be getting rid of the heavy ass exhaust, interior, spare tire, and other stuff. Switching up to much lighter track wheels. I guess only time will tell.
I guess it all adds up, but you don't see many cars these days even close to the 2200 lb mark.
What about suspension?

I'm going to run Intrax springs with KYB GR2 struts. The larger Tiburon swaybar that is a direct swap...I think its 19mm, with metal end links instead of the plastic ones that come stock. Already have a front strut tower brace, but might go for a better one from Ultra Racing along with the rear strut tower brace. The car already handles very well, so I am sure to be impressed with just these few upgrades.
Nice, I'm not the only one modding a Korean economy car
