So I need to pick out a new car for work. I have 12k to play with and need to pick out something that will get me great MPG's!
Right now on my list
Mazda3
Cobalt
Now this car stays with me I will be using this for a second car as well as a work car, Since my G6 sucks for mpg.
Anyone else have suggestions? They need to be low milage also 2005 and newer under 40k miles
I am looking for some options sunroof is a must.. I'd prefer leather too
My buddy just traded in his Mazda 3 for an Aveo because he's driving 80 miles to work and back. Other than the lack of anything resembling power or handling, he says it's quite nice.
fortune cookie say: better a delay than a disaster
I'd say Acura 1.7EL, but since you can't get those in the US, maybe a Corolla if you want good mileage. If you want to give up a few MPGs for more options than I'd say Cobalt is the best way to go.
I need it to have decent interior room so the aveo is out
I saw the scion xb gets 30 city but I dont think I can bring myself to driving a toaster around town
Right now the Mazda3 is winning since it gets better milage then the cobalt
Dare a saw a civic or accord. What about a sentra or versa?
2005 4 door cobalt LTZ with Leather options is decent. Mazda3 = holds value..... maybe you can find one with that low mil;eage with leathers. (better car then Cobalt, but you will pay for it)
My Cav
I give up...
i'm buying a VW those people love trees, so they should love eachother too... "Andy"
it doesnt make much sense when you want to dump 12k on another car.. when it only costs you $400 or less - more per year on your gas expenses on your G6.
maybe you dont care.. i dont know, just saying. and whats wrong with a cheap reliable j-body?
Yep, you could have three JBodies for that price, or more.
I agree with the post above - are you just trying to keep miles off of the G6, or are you really justifying a 12k purchase to save a couple hundred at most a year in gas? How many miles a day do you drive? Is it just a commuter car or does it have to haul/deliver stuff?

My 06' HHR gets about 30mpg....my fiance's Mazda 3 gets about 28mpg.
Rated....
Mazda 3....24/33mpg
Cobalt XFE features a 2.2L ECOTEC four-cylinder engine with 155 horsepower and an EPA estimated 37 MPG highway....

I agree. I don't see the point in needing to spend 12k on a car when the extra gas won't really cost you much. Either that or you just want a second car so you don't put miles on yours. I did the same thing however I bought a cheap 92 Saturn for 500 bucks. No need to get a new car
My G6 gets 17MPG city roughly 24 HW
Right now im spending about 25 dollars every 4-5 days to fill up and thats at 1.99
Plus another car wouldn't be horrible to have
05 Cav or sunfire gets much better gas mileage than a cobalt, its lighter
1989 Turbo Trans Am #82, 2007 Cobalt SS G85
Mazda 3, no contest as far as I'm concerned
Brian
the tv was on my list but its just a little too small
tc is heavier and has horrible gearing for highway driving

There's a nice looking yellow Pontiac G5 at speedway auto mall, I think it might be 13k though, and not sure about the options. I'll check when I drive by later today.
Honda fit
Lanman31337 -F = fatties = do not want. A little chunk in the junk is ok though.
Wait... you're whining because gas costs you $25/week? Small price to pay compared to another vehicle. Look at the facts:
$12,000 for a new car
Plus insurance
Plus gas for the new car
Plus maintenance
OR
$25/week (== $1300/year)
So you want to pay 9 years worth of gas money for a new car to save money on gas? And that's just on the cost of the car? Doesn't make much sense to me.

I'm with this guy.
I could understand a nice DD, but you have a G6 in the driveway, not a ZO6
.
The tC isn't that great on gas. Honda Fit wasn't a bad suggestion, hell what do the newer Sentra's go for?
I probably should add that work is giving me $130 a week for expenses for driving
