I'm trying to build something that I can use on the beach for play. Thinking along the lines of a go-kart type thing, but high suspension. I really want it to run off of like a 6-10 horse lawnmower type motor.
Preferably something for two people, or something that's easy and cheap enough to build so I could build two of them.
I currently have a 6 hp single seater go kart, but it's really low to the ground and wouldn't do good on any sort of terrain.
You guys have any ideas? I would love to build a gas powered snowboard for the beach, but I don't know any of the technology involved in those things, so it'd be hard for me to adapt.
The terrain is relatively flat, but there are some bumps and stuff here and there. I won't be going into or over any sand dunes or anything with what I plan to build. I also need it to be small enough so that it will fit in the bed of a pickup truck.
Something like that? It's just an off road go-kart.

Sand rail. Look it up, they're not too bad to build from what I understand and you can make them street legal and you can keep them pretty small.

That's about what I have now, except it's one seater. Mine is also A LOT lower to the ground. I'd like to get two small 1 person things, I'm not sure how well I could build something like that. My biggest hurdle would be breaking, axles, and suspension.

I've had one, I'm looking for something small. Sand rails are hard to make street legal because they're hard to get insured. That's at least what I remember when we had ours. You don't know what they run for now do they? Maybe I could find one already street legal and find out how they did it.
Most rails are titled as vw beetles. All you really need is a title with the vin to match the vin on the motor in most states. I'd take a rail buggy over any type of go cart IMO

Can you do that with any motor? Say I wanted to use a rotary or whatever, I just use the vin from the motor to register the vehicle? It asks what model the vehicle is, would you say Rx7 even though it's obviously not one any longer. My worry is I get in an accident and they check the vehicles and refuse coverage and I'm stuck with the bill for the other persons vehicle. Would an insurance agent be the best person to call or the DMV?
Look up SAE Baja on youtube.

Here at work, we have an old golf cart that's been lifted using some, lets say cheap, pieces of steel tubing. It was used for sand dunes and beaches before we got a hold of it. It's fun to drive and has a little gas motor, thing feels like it's going to tip over at any moment, but that's why you have to lean into the turns
