It's official GM will phase out Saturn by 2011. They want to sell it off, but if a buyer doesn't come along the brand will be phased out by the end of the current vehicle life span

really I haven't see any news on this?
Can't say I completely agree with this, but it would be really hard to assign Saturn a vehicle line now. I just hope the Sky stays under one brand or another...

Keep reading, the news was fresh off the GM press conference when i typed that. They are also looking to offload the Hummer brand by March 31st, they have a few buyers. Pontiac will survive. The 3 brands with questionalbe futures are Saturn, Hummer, and Saab. Saturn will be disolved if a buyer doesn't come along before Q2 of 2010. Hummer is gone no matter what. And Saab may stay if the swedish bailout of Saab and Volvo actually go through. If not, Saab will be sold as well next year.

Oh well i guess my last post kinda recaps everything in a shorter "cliffs notes" kind of way.

I will miss cars made from milk jugs
Getting rid of Saturn is a no brainer since it's basically turned into Geo. What car does Saturn sell that's a not a rebadged version of another company's car? The whole point of Saturn was to create a domestic brand that was built/run/designed better than the imports. Now it's just a badge to put on Opels.
Pontiac is probably going to be used to offload all the Opels and Holdens now, making it a "niche" brand for performance vehicles from foreign GM makes. Buick will probably be used to replace Pontiac as the performance division. I see a return of the Grand National, Grand Sport and T-Type cars in the next few years.
Good riddance!! Dieeeeeeeee Saturn you pos.

I didnt mind the original saturns but now they are as watered down as pontiac's g5 is an authentic body type.
I dont know about buick as performance, though I wouldnt mind seeing a turbo v6 rwd or awd from them.
Thank jesus. I hate Saturn they can burn in hell with Yugo and Geo and all the Pintos.
The last real Saturn was made in 2002. If only they kept it as a Korean and Scion fighter instead of mid-level Oldsmobile wannabe. Today's Saturn should have be left as Oldsmobile. Atleast if kept, the Olds name would be more than 110 years old, oldest American car nameplate.

it will, as the pontiac solstice.
but even that has its death day picked out.. 2011 is the magic year for everything apparently.
I wish they would have dumped hummer AND GMC. Those the REAL excess in the company. But its reasonable to kill Saturn OR pontiac as well.
Hopefully the kappa line or some decendant there of will live on; its really an awesome platform.
RIP saturn

I never cared for Saturns, period. It won't be missed.
i have a few neighbors losing jobs over this, so i have mixed emotions. one is going through chemo and needs the insurance.
i personally am not a fan of saturn, however i wish this would have come at a later date. they will probably start job cuts soon, and those using the insurance for its purpose will probably be the first dropped.

The Solstice will be long dead by 2011. Actually, I'll be amazed if it sees the 4th of July this year.
