The Corvette Stingray is back for an encore performance, but unfortunately for enthusiasts it's only in the movies. A styling concept dreamed up by Corvette designers two years ago will star as a character named Sideswipe in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The concept was revealed Wednesday at the Chicago auto show.
The Stingray is one of the most dramatic and head-turning concepts Chevy has rolled out in recent memory. The sleek silver car draws cues from the original 1959 Stingray race car, and also looks a bit like the 1963 Corvette with its split-back rear window.
The concept was designed in General Motors' infamous, secretive Studio X, and caught the eye of Transformers director Michael Bay--landing it a role in the movie that premieres in June. The Stingray has an almost shark-like grille, arching fenders and rolls on big chrome wheels.
As sexy as it looks, don't expect to ever see it on the road. GM design boss Ed Welburn wouldn't say if the Stingray could be a hint of future Corvettes.
"This is purely a concept….I like our designers to feel free to bring forward ideas," Welburn said.
He also was coy about development of the next Corvette, hinting that a design team "has explored that quite a bit," in reference to creating drawings. It's unclear when the next-generation Corvette will arrive.
The Stingray does not run and was revealed by pulling off a tarp--in contrast to the Chevy Camaro concept, which thundered onto the stage. The Camaro again will play the role of Bumblebee in the new flick.
The sports cars will be joined by the Volt, which plays Jolt, and the Chevy Beat and Trax, which will use the stage names Skids and Mudflap, respectively.

No they won't the article said it.
Yeah I am not a big fan especially at first and especially the front. However the rear is nice and I see where they got most of the inspiration for it so design wise I appreciate it. It would be cool if it did run.
Makes me want to see Transformers more.
The proper way of using the word seen. It is not I seen it that would be I saw it. He has seen the car is the right way to use the word. English class is Cool. By the way thats my sig
thank god the article says it only for a movie, b/c this car would ruin the corvette apperance legacy.
yuck.
it looks sexy from the side, but the front is hideous. undecided on the rear. overall, its just got way too much going on.

yeah i really like the stingray emblem too
Wow they painted the Batmobile silver and put a stingray emblem on it.......idk what GM was thinking...Batman is gonna be pissed!
I'm going to the auto show monday morning, I'm interested to see how this looks in person. Auto Show on a week day as soon as they open FTW!
I may be against everyone else but i feel that that car is awesome looking! Being a vette and 63 split window fan im kinda partial but I love the way that looks. I feel it implements c2, c3, c6 and other vette year features in one modern looking package.
I approve, build it and they will come!
i was thinking batmobile as well...

wrong.....lol
I don't think it's too bad..but like others said..a littel too busy and I don't really like the front
by far one of the most beautiful of corvette concepts in a long time. Its lines are sexy. The profile and front evoke the image of the 60s and 70s corvettes while that split window rear is totally 63. I love this design and would love to see what kind of iterations could be brought forth as a working model on the streets. Intense!!!
Do unto others as you would have done unto you
