Agreed...they came in at the perfect price point. They will sell boatloads of these. Too bad GM can't take a hint on something like this.

I want one so bad. Seriously. I wanted a Mazdaspeed3, but F that. I want a V6 Genesis, either in white or yellow like the commercial. This will be my next car. And my folks will probably get a sedan.

wow the lowest base price came in way under my thoughts/estimations. I'd love to see some performance specs on the 2.0 turbo models. its kinda heavy so...mid 15's in the quarter? high 14's for the v6? whats the weight differential between the four and six cylinder?

as long as the aftermarket tackles the turbo model, im on it

looks decent but 210 hp seems kinda week considering there are natrually aspirated engines allready making very similar power numbers without boost and to add V6 takes it outta being competative at a bargin

As far as aftermarket for the the turbo 4 HKS already has a project car and there is another company over in korea who has a GT35R kit out for it......so im thinking there will me quite a bit of aftermarket available for this car right away. Oh yeah and i remember somewhere reading a V6 with I/H/E and slight tune ran a 14.01

i would strongly consider it, even tho i dont really need it, so my practical side would probably win out anyways
either way, the car looks noice

Actually, Hyundai's pricing and the power output of the car is very close to the base Mustang (210hp) Challenger (250hp) and Camaro (300hp) if you think about it. Price it closer to the Tiburon and then we'll talk about huge value for money.

However it has four major advantages over the American cars:

#1 It has an R spec trim with all the speed goodies and none of the pork for a tiny amount of money over the base model.

#2 It's a bit lighter than the American muscle so those 210 horses will go further.

#3 It has (in Canada anyway) an 84 month financing plan which means the difference between a buy and a pass for a LOT of people.

#4 Finally, the base car is turbocharged which means that getting more power out of that engine is just a question of cranking up the boost instead screwing around with all sorts of internal modifications. I wouldn't be surprised to see that the Genesis could pull a reliable 275-300hp with some very minor tweaks.

This is a huge coup for Hyundai. All that's missing is a 140hp base model going for 17,000$ and then they'd completely dominate the RWD hot-rod market. This car is as important to car guys like us as the 1955 Chevy, 1964 GTO, 1964 Mustang, 1967 Camaro, 1968 Roadrunner, 1983 Mustang 5.0 and 1993 Camaro Z28 were in their day. It's a car that one ups the competition by such a huge margin that any company that wants to compete has to drastically and immediately offer better value or risk losing a massive amount of sales.

Hopefully Ford, GM and Chrysler will take the hint and either lower their prices or offer stripped down models of their own. They could outdo Hyundai easily, it's just a question of wether they want to or not.

Really, one could say not just Domestics need to worry...this car seriously threatens the G37 market as well. Why $35,000 for the infiniti with a basic 3 year/30,000 mile warranty, when you can get pretty much the same car for $29,000 loaded with a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty and a buy back program if you lose your job. Huyndai is making it hard for the consumer NOT to look their way.

Not to mention in reliability is high lately. Heck, in 2004 Hyundai was ranked 3rd to Toyota and Honda in reliability.

Also notice that the 4cyl uses 2.0-liter, "low-pressure" turbo, could Hyundai be working on a "High-Pressure" turbo?

If Huyndai develops stage kits for the Gen-T coupes they will steal a ton of customers from GM after the Cobalt SS-T is canceled and they try to sell us that ugly POS Cruize. Why would i want an ugly cheaply built and engineered Daewoo econo-box when i could have a poor mans G35?

I thought that just meant that they achieved the numbers on low boost. Meaning if you could easily crank the boost for more power They also claim big torque at like 2000 rpm, so it cant be a huge turbo to begin with. I'm thinking very similar to the LNF without the DI.

I hear ya man. I love my '06 Mustang so much that I thought there wouldn't be another vehicle that would make me consider getting rid of it. Now I'm thinking Genesis coupe may be that vehicle. Makes me wonder how would the 2.0T 4cyl (210 hp right?) compare with my 4.0L v6 (also 210 hp). I think the aftermarket for the 2.0T could easily exceed that of the 3.8L v6.
Re: Hyundai Genesis coupe pricing and info

Here's an interesting feature of the car:

The Genesis Coupe will have two available engines. The base engine will be a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder producing 223 hp (166 kW) and 217 ft·lbf (294 N·m) torque[8], with an optional 3.8L Lambda engine producing 312 hp (233 kW) and 266 ft·lbf (361 N·m) torque [8] on premium gas. On regular grade fuel the power outputs will be reduced to 212 hp (158 kW) and 306 hp (228 kW), respectively.

Why don't every manufacturer do this? If you can tune a car to run on Ethanol and Gas, why can't you tune the thing to run on premium or regular. Makes a difference to people's pocketbooks sometimes.

The automatic tranny is also the same one that Jaguar and BMW use. So that's a bulletproof piece for sure.

This car is looking better and better. The only thing it needs now is Hyundai's 375hp 4.6L V8 as a top of the line model to really give competition to the ponycars and other sport coupes, and a basic bare bones 140hp 2.0 L4 so that kids who couldn't get insurance on a turbo car and have a limited budget could afford this.

I'm seeing this becoming the car to get for guys who wanna go fast.

Are ya listening Ford? GM? Chrysler? The bar has been raised. Put your cars on a diet, lower their prices by a few grand, offer packages aimed at people who actually buy fast cars, stop trying to make luxury cars with your ponycars, and encourage people to hot-rod your engines. Then maybe you'll see some real sales.
