Tuesday, February 03, 2009 10:23 PM
Hey guys, i'm kinda lookin for a new car to replace my z right now, and the ion has kinda caught my eye. Who's got one and what's your opinions on them?

Oh, and the center guages have really got my attention. Definitely give your opinions on those as well.

Thanks.

Not a fan of the Base models... The only one that remotely does anything is the Red Line model.

I had a 2005 Ion-3 coupe till last October. I hated that car. The 2.2 felt very weak, the car was very slow. The interior pieces, especially around the rear doors would fall off. The dash rattled and squeaked horribly. The car was 3.5 years old, only had 50,000KM's on it, and I went through 5 sets of sway bar bushings. One set barely lasted 3 months, just horrible. I would stay away if I was you.

believe me, i'd love a redline! but any forced induction car is out of the question, my dad said he wouldn't co-sign a loan for one lol.

i definitely dont want a "cheap feeling" car though. any other suggestions for a car that price range?

Junk. If you have to buy a Saturn, you are better off with the S-series...

Later IONs were okay, but I wouldn't pay much for one...

Look for a different car. My father owns a 2006 Ion 3 and the thing is built like a dollar store toy. He has had problem after problem with it. It's no wonder they discontinued them.

guy i ride to work with has a 03 ion. 5 spd with the ecotec.

just hit 100k miles and all he did was oil changes, nothing else. Well the coolant sensor went out.

Ask around all you want, some people will hate them(or any car) and some will love them.

Good luck non the less.

Then he was lucky. Everyone I know who had one had problems.....GM fan or not, they are junk....

Something around $8,000. definately nothing fast, maybe a little quick. I got nothing for ya, Unless you can find like a mid 90's mustang gt.

Theres a reason they call saturn's tupperware. cause they are literally made of plastic. not even joking, the exterior panels are some plastic compound that doesnt dent but is still plastic.

If your looking for something that doesn't look or feel "cheap", look elsewhere.

Honestly as someone suggested. LOOK at the Astra. Awesome car. (I also find older Saturn's to be awesome little cars)

The astra is a wicked little car for the price. You can get some pretty good incentives on them as well. IMO that and the Aura are very slick cars.

My wife has an Ion. 110 000 miles on it
changed 1 wheel bearing and oil
that's it
It's been running amazing
Only thing is the blower fan makes a ticking noise every now and then

it's 5 speed, eco, and i find it to be pretty quick, but then again, i'm used to my 98 S-Series which is slow as sh!t but extremely reliable

around 8k, there's not a whole lot of options... golf/jetta's and electrical hell, older model BMW (98-2000), ugly focuses, jbody?,

Oh, and borderlin3, all saturns are plastic bodied, except for the newest ones.... hence you'll never see a rusted out old saturn.... and they're dent resistant... i got backed into by a civic, it's rear end fell off in a thousand pieces, my door dented in and back out...

im looking to get out of jbodies altogether. i haven't had any luck at at all with the 3 i've owned.

right now, i'm thinking:
1. galant
2. tiburon
3. monte carlo
4. grand am/grand prix
5. possibly jetta, but i'd really prefer to stay away from those.

and from the majority of opinions, i'm probably going to stay away from ions, unless i can get a really good deal on one. i love the way they look, but dont want something that feels cheap like my cavalier does.

Out of that list, I would get the grand prix. You can ge ta nice GTP for under 8k.

2004 Cavalier. Razzi. (Sold)
1998 Corvette. Some mods.
1992 Typhoon. Lots of mods.
1994 Civic VX 44MPG

Based on this list you aren't sticking with a certain type of body style at all.

From personal experience...the newer Tiburons are great cars for the money. If you were to get one...it better be the SE V6. Only one with a damn IMO
The interiors are pretty amazing and the 07's come with some pretty great options.

Other then that I'd say a Grand Prix.
