This is a mistake on North American GM's part, the car is already developed, safety certified as the G8 is already here. It would be another market to sell to, it could easily sell 8-10K units a year. I smelled this coming as initially the car was scheduled for Fall 2008, then Spring 2009 and lastly Fall 2009.

Ugly as piss, Classic GM move+ more faith & money lost.

GM needs to focus on the larger demographics, not. cult's... ehh maybe even tell there dealerships to not be stuck up pricks to
can't tell you how many people I know who passed up SSBolts, and chevy products becuase of there piss poor service.

Stupid move on GM's part. They should've put it in the GMC brand and offered a nice base model for businesses to use for deliveries. No suprise on the cancellation though GM execs are known for making genius decisions . Would've increased their CAFE mileage to boot.

The car would have to go through all the crash safety and emissions testing. They cant just say its a G8 and let it fly. Also the G8 will be going away as Holden is going to redo the Commodore and GM already said they wont be using the new vehicle. It doesn't really make sense to go through the added expense of testing a car that you wont be able to sell at a reasonable price and still turn a profit when you are just killing off the platform within a few years anyways.

You've missed the point that GM doesn't have to retool anything to comply, therefore GM doesn't need to spend $ to re-engineer to meet standards. "Easy-money" and it would be another market to add total sales. Guarantee that the niche G8 ST would likely sell double to what the niche Chevy SSR did.
I won't comment the speculation and here-say on the future platform.

even if it did sell double what the SSR did that still doesnt make it profitable to make because hardly any SSRs were sold, in fact ive never once saw one outside of a dealer lot

SSRs are running in big cities with population over a million. This truck was made as second or third car not your base car... so the city has to have wealthy community. That's where you will see the SSRs.
