I was taking off the thermostat on my 98 sonoma because it seemed like it was sticking. First bolt came off fine, then the 2nd one decided to brake off about 1/2 way out.

heres a pic of the bolt

i bought this to try to remove it

it did not do any good at all all it did was break

how do i get this thing out?

its a 4.3 btw

thanks for any help..

Maybe you could get a dremel in there somehow and make a slit that you can stick a flat head screw driver into and get it out that way. My other suggestion was to drill it out but you tried that lol

Umm....take a nut and weld it in the center to the broken bolt...and sometimes that works.... You can try and drillit out larger...if not time to grab a intake mani from the wreckers..real cheap from the u pick it yards.

What's the process called where you drill it out, and you actually screw threads into the area and it's good as new? I've seen it on car shows where they work on older stuff..something like that might work well.

drill and tap.

you retap the threads and go to the original but more likely next size larger.

how to re-tap threads

use the thing you bought, drill the hole fairly deep. then hammer th extractor in.....then remove by hand, no a drill, the longer the handle on what your turning the more torque

I would if there werent a row i headbolts that went down beside the exhaust. I did it on a 95 4.3 and it was a pain

Should be the same bolt pattern. Im not looking forward to it but it probably needs done. Guess it would be time for a set of headers while im at it.

when i did it on the 95 i did not even take the exhaust manifolds off. tat would have made it a little easier.
