Help! Car Shopping.. Input

So here it is... The Fire is totalled, which is absolutely effing terrible, so I am in a dilemna
Insurance gave me a large amount for the car,at least for a J, but with my insurance rates going up, as this wreck was my fault, I need to think alot about what I buy..
Long story short, I only wanna spend about 4500 on a car, and I plan on just putting the rest in savings and buyin a new ar when I graduate from college, with that being said, here are some of the options I'm thinkin

1. 2wd S-10, or Blazer, preferrably a 4 cyl for gas mileage, maybe a motor swap down the road
2. A 3.8 liter car possibly (throw me some ideas, cause i love that motor)
3. Possibly a caprice wagon? only if i made an SS clone

I need dependability, gas mileage, and room to haul guitar amps bascially, but still have potential for a bit of a cool factor
Only GM products, a Ford may be do-able, but not likely
and no more j's, at least for the time being

Thoughts, opinions, reccomendations

Why only GM products? I guess there's the Malibu, Impala, Grand Am, Grand Prix, Bonneville, and any other mid-size sedan that GM has.

You said 3.8l so I'll just throw a w-body out there for you, plenty of room to haul @!#$, the 3800 can take a beating, and parts/maintenance are nearly identical to that of a j-body. Meaning cheap and always relatively easy. Not to mention the price of these have went down drastically, and if you pick up a GTP or Regal GS with the blower you can still have some fun. My buddy's Regal GS with all his mods probably averages more MPG than my Sunfire GT amazingly enough.

Sorry to hear about the Sunfire .

I would go the route of the gran prix or depending on your ability to work on cars an older blazer. with them, you only want the 4.3 engine, and if you do the up to 92 tbi set up is easier to work on than the 94 and up vortec.
I wouldn't do the caprice if you needed mileage, thats like buying the xfe tahoe for the 1 extra mpg...

imo the grand prix would be the way to go... always liked them... there sexy and if you get the gtp like Joe said there pretty peppy!

on another note... did they ever make a blazer with a 4cyl? i know the s10s came with the 2.2s... but i didnt think the blazers did...

thanks joe, in a way i was ready to move on i thought, but it came too quick and i would've much rather sold it then have a wreck, plus im out alot in parts lol

i test drove a 2000 2 door chevy blazer, 2wd, 4,3 with a 5 speed 90k, I'm gonna make an offer, cause thats the perfect blazer in my eyes, it looks indigo blue, or close to it.. its absolutely a cherry lookin truck... so cross your fingers for me guys

and a shameless plug here, if anyone needs some parts, theres a few for sale in the mid central,,, will ship most items

Yep, the Regal GS is still a w-body.

Good luck on the Blazer!

If it doesn't work out find something with an M90 .

You know there is a law that states that if you own a 2wd S-truck, that it has to be bagged.

-Boosted LS1?
-Richmond ROD 6-speed(will get sometime)
-Posi 12-bolt(built w/eaton posi unit and richmond 3.73 gears)
