well im looking to get some new ones here real soon. nothing super expensive or bogger's that are crazy agressive. im either looking for an all terrain tire or something with some small knobs on them to get good traction, size im looking at is a 215/65/r15 also.
what does everyone else use and have good experience. i may go with a snow drive since its just the winter beater. whats everyone think of the michelin artic-alpin?
the other one im looking at is the firestone winter force.
or the bridgestone weatherforce
let me know. thanks.

I had the Michelins you refer to on the S/C'd Cav back in the day, loved them, pretty much identical to Blizzacks. If you're buying them for winter-duty only they'll be great. If not I suggest you have other tires for when Spring rolls around.
BFG ATs are probably a little more than you're looking for in size and cost so
check these out.
slightly larger diameter than what you have now, aboot .8".
I have a 2.2 S-10 with the Bridgestone Winterforce, but I haven't driven much in the snow yet.
well the cav is the dd so this is just the "winter beater" or work truck every once in a while while the cav is down. i only have the one set of rims and dont plan to dump much money into the truck at all so would those michelins handle a few days of spring driving?
what you think of the winterforces though? are they the firestone winterforce or the bridgestone weatherforce? you kinda combined both haha.
Sure they'll handle a few days, but majority of the tires in that category are prone to wearing
fast in dry conditions!
so what would you suggest for a good all season yet good tread/grip tire. nothing SUPER knobby, but yet some decent lugs for tread
Brigdestone, had them installed at Firestone. Haha.
Honestly, when I had a rear wheel drive car I put a set of Sears snow tires on it and they worked perfectly. I really noticed the difference on hills, I could actually make it up them. They were louder then the summer tires but not too bad.
I have the Bridgestone/Firestone Winterforces on my 2.2 beater right now... dude they grip VERY well and I drove through 6" of packed snow/ice this weekend like it was wet pavement.
I am literally shocked at how well they grip. I've driven through two snowstorms so far and I haven't had a clue how bad it was outside. Cars were sliding off the road into the ditch and I was driving a long like it was barely raining out. lol.
You won't regret them. Probably the best tire in their price category.

how were they in the dry though? like if the road is plowed and its clear and dry? chew them up pretty fast?
The ones I have are two seasons old. They still have over 75% tread left and are fine for me on the dry. You get used to them being a bit "Squibby" on pavement after the first few drives. Don't take them into a corner to hard either... mind you that's universal with most winter tires.
I've driven mostly on pavement so far... they seem fine. I can't report wear from experience yet but as I said these are 2 seasons old and have lots of tread left on them.
My confidence with them in snow is now 100%, whereas I was always pissing myself every time I had to drive through a snowstorm with my all-seasons. I don't need to worry about the car acting stupid, I can just focus on the road and on the cars around me.

Strictly snow-tire like mentioned > all seasons, I agree with Chris, I do seriously almost @!#$ myself on all seasons at times and miss the Michelins greatly. Majority of them are all the same so I can't comment on which one to go with. I'd say cheapest with good reviews.
I only mention wear as they're soft, which is why Chris also mentioned them being a bit "squibby" (cute description!). Haha.
I've had the Blizzacks for three seasons and still plenty of tread left. Ran them on my 84 Cutlass Supreme(383 stroker motor so it was a bit heavier) for the first season and now on my Sunfire. I love them. Chris was right about being able to predict them(winter tires) and just focus on road and other drivers.

BFG AT's FTW!!! I just got some installed on my Canyon.
It snowed 15 cm's this week and these tires hold up great.
I love them for the snow.
You won't be sorry...I got mine at Costco and were faily cheap
Disclaimer: I will probally offend you with what is written in this post.
I just put a set of Bridgestone Duelers on my Pathfinder. Great combo highway/all-terrain tire. Great in all conditions so far. Haven't had them through heavy snow yet, but I'm not worried.

You're gonna love them on everything most likely, for my money no other tire comes close as far as overall durability & longevity for a truck or SUV in all 4 seasons.
After living here in the frozen Adirondacks of New York and my mom having a 2wd 2000 S-10 xtended cab (2.2L/5gear), all I can say is definitely go with those crazy-spelled Hakapelitas (Nokias)
add some weight over the axle and your S10 should go just about anywhere... we lived at the top of a huge hill and the S10 always made it up.
