Nissan announced a few updates for the 2009 GT-R, updates that include 5 more hp from the 3.8-litre twin turbo V6 "VR38" engine. The 2009 model year will be called Series II Nissan GT-R R35 and will be first launched in Japan. The white body color is changed from paint code QX1 to QAB (Storm White); Brembo brake calipers are rebadged to Nissan; front license plate is base removed (U.S. already has it); and the gas tank is size expanded from 71 liters to 73.8 liters (about .75 gallons). All this does come at a premium. There is a five percent price increase.
Lastly it has talked about here a lot. But Nissan announced that not only the next model year GT-R will get 5 more hp, now it seems that the 2010 model will drop also launch control.
Nissan executive said "It’s gone," when asked if launch control would return in 2010. "We just don’t want to deal with the warranty nightmare anymore. It’ll make the 2009 GT-R really special. It’ll be the only R35 with launch control."
For those who haven’t been able to test the launch control, it’s a system that pegs the revs at 4500 RPM and waits for the driver to lift his/her foot off the brake. This holds the car in the "sweet spot" for a quick takeoff, unfortunately as you can tell from Nissan’s statement, it can also dump the transmission (a $20,000 repair).

LOL
huge hype, ugly, expensive, and made of glass.
worst cars ever made.
^^^^^^
As a Nissan guy myself, I must agree with the previous poster.
Let's see if it will make it car of the year again. (depends how much money Nissan has to give the editors.)
I don't like it. I still want an R32.
The only problem that's obvious is the trans failing after abusing the transmission. As far as I know, DSG transmissions are fairly new and can only take so much torque. A 6 speed manual would solve their only problem.

X2
Newsflash nissan:
PUT A GODDAM MANUAL TRANS IN IT, ONE THATS ACTUALLY BUILT FOR THE TORQUE THE ENGINE MAKES.... PROBLEM SOLVED.

R34 FTW! I love this car, and it is cheaper, faster, and will last longer.
You mean the self proclaimed holy grail of ricers cant launch decent? Surely you must be mistaken

You mean the GTR grew a mouth and vocal chords and proclaimed itself "the holy grail of ricers"? Surely you must be mistaken.
I just want to reiterate the fact that these things are the biggest pieces of @!#$ on the planet.
all the handling in the world doesn't back up the fact that your drivetrain sucks dick.
look at the RX8.. advertised as 250hp.. when dynoed by owners only made like 150 at the wheels.
where'd that 100hp go?
welcome to the new import over-hyped disaster car. I did some digging and a bunch of GT-R owners are trying to get organized to file a class-action lawsuit against nissan to FORCE them either into settlement (would accomplish nothing) or creating a recall, or something.
they basically state in the warranty that if you use the car's launch control, and/or disable the VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control.. a fancy traction control) the warranty is void due to misuse.
but yet, why add these features to the car if by using them you void factory warranties..?
also all performance numbers (3.5 seconds 0-60mph) and the mid 11 1/4 mile times are done using traction control. Without using traction control, add a solid second to both of those times.
sounds like false advertisement since they state these numbers as facts, yet don't explain that the only way to duplicate them is by using the outlawed features of the car...
then I read some magazine highlights where it was praised as the "best car ever made", "the baby veyron", and the greatest of all.. "car of the year".
lmao. just think some poor schlub somewhere paid $80k for a car that if used voids the warranty and you have a $20k repair on your hands.
what a @!#$ joke.
All your complaints are about the transmission. They are valid. But I think if they put in a nice manual that could handle the power, it would be a pretty sweet car... Maybe get rid of some of the electronic controls... It's awd. People could tune these things to make sick numbers... Didn't they make the cars hard to tamper with? If so they need to change that too. You can't make a skyline hard to tune, that takes the fun out of it.
