I have a 98 Saturn SC1 (1.9L SOHC)
It has a warped head
It has 350 000 km on it (215k miles)
I can buy a new head for 125$
or I can buy a used engine (160k km (100k miles)) with said head for 250$
my question is...
which would be less work and by how much more/less?...
realizing I have already ripped the first engine apart once to replace head gasket when i still thought that was the issue.
Are you asking if it would be harder to change a head or an engine? I think you know that answer
I'd go ahead and pick up the engine even if you only use parts off it.
to be honest i really don't know the answer... i've never pulled an engine...
I can do the head swap, and it'll take me about 2 days by the time i get everything apart and replaced while keeping the rest of the engine in the engine bay. it's really flippin tight to get the timing chain cover off thouhg.... pita...
I'm just wondering how much more work it would be to not rip anything apart, but just pull the engine out, and drop the other one back in.
thanks
completely depends on the tools you got. if you got a hoist i'd probably just yank the whole motor
pulling the sohc is easy just buy the whole engine. taking the head off is a pain you have to jack the engine up and you'll still have trouble getting to the bolts in the timing cover to take the head off. (if you haven't notice Ive done this a few time before but on the dohc)
awesome
thank you gentlemen...
i was thinking it would be easier to pull the engine.. b/c yeah... that timing chain cover is a PITA....
i may not have a hoist... but i have a payloader

so.
new motor is in
everything is hooked up
and when i turn the key......... nothing.
no clicks
lights on dash come on
i tried boosting it with another car, no difference
I'm guessing I have a bad ground somewhere or the starter is garbage.
anyone have any other ideas of what it might be?
The instructions apparently said that you arent suposed to lift the clutch slave cylinder above the master cylinder?
What would this cause? and how would I diagnose/fix this? The pedal still feels just like before, not lighter or heavier or anything
You aren't using an engine harness from an automatic on a 5 spd by chance are you? If so, you need to splice the two power wires together.
That's a good question.
I don't know, but I will check into it.
Thanks!
