That is if you get the "Hardcore package" which removes that on the ACR.^

Wow how many times was he going to miss shifts, and just hold it on the limiter. I wonder how much faster of a lap he actually could have made. It was pretty freakin awesome though.

Strip the vette of its amenities likes this Viper, and slap on some more "aggressive" then factory tires.. (Which I am almost positive this has on), and I am sure the vette could match if not beat the time.)

^ I agree that ACR has better tires as the ZR1 is running on Runflats, but they both carry the best tire manufactures: ACR- Michelin Pilot Sport Cup, ZR1- Michelin Pilot Sport 2 Runflats. But you have to consider Viper is also a little heavier and less powerful than the ZR1. 600 HP/ 560 ft-lb for the ACR, While ZR1 has 638HP / 604 ft-lbs.

Lastly the HCP only deletes which deletes the audio system, trunk carpet, rear cabin sound insulation, tire inflator kit, hood insulator, and steel battery cover for 40lbs less.

ACR is one hell of package and kicks the arse of the Eurotrash.

Ill agree as well, As for the drivers, the Vette needed to have a ring ace drive it, not one of the technicians . You could clearly see him in his videos miss the apex at half the bends and such... As for this driver bumping it off the rev limiter, I can not comment on that, but I will say he HIT his lines fantastically, HE even had me nervous here in my chair with how fast he was taking those turns. (DO NOT get me wrong though, I am VERY VERY impressed by both vehicles).

A lot of those rev limiter hits were necessary, had he shifted, he would have IMMEDIATELY shifted right back down for the upcoming corner. Anyone who ACTUALLY races knows what I'm talking about. He did miss a shift with about 1:10 left, really bad, but other then that, i really feel there's not much more he can get out of that car, maybe a couple seconds, thats it. ZR1 with a professional driver would likely be sub 7:20 but thats all speculation

The ACR also has a fully adjustable suspension wheras the Vette does not. As I stated the ACR is esentialy a race far that is street legal.

The Vette's suspension does not need to be adjusted, that's why it isn't.
Well, I guess you could adjust it, but your GM code-breaking and programming skills had better be up to snuff

The ACR has coil overs with compression and rebound dampening adjustments. It also has an adjustable front splitter and rear spoiler.

I didn't say the Viper isn't adjustable, I said that the Vette's doesn't need to be...

Ok, if this particular trim of the car comes with those things from the factory, why bitch about them being unfair advantages? compare the price of the ZR1 and the ACR and then see which one did better for a better value. If the more expensive one did worse, congrats on the cheaper of the 2. If the cheaper one did worse, well that is to be expected. Comparing price to performance between these two cars that WERE TESTED AS THEIR TRIM LEVEL COMES FROM THE FACTORY, makes sense. But to say that factory inclusions on one of them are unfair advantages is just splitting hairs and being a brand loyal fanboy that doesn't accept that something else did better than your particular nut swing of the season.

I am not saying this as a Dodge fan, because anyone who knows me and my experience with Dodge vehicles knows damn well I am not a fan... But I guess I am more open minded to all brands than most of the cry babies who couldn't afford either of these cars but still fight like they made the ZR1 by hand themselves.... Your kid got in the ring(no pun intended), and a better fighter kicked it's ass. They did it while playing by the rules(no race-only parts or anything some rich Joe Schmo couldn't get himself from the factory).

I don't hear anyone complaining or crying or anything...They both may be factory stock but the ZR1 and the ACR are 2 very different cars... the ZR1 is a street car that can race, and the ACR is a race car that you can street. There is a big difference: ZR1 has everything and a bag of chips... ACR/HCP hasn't even got the bag of peanuts you used to get on a air plane.

If you had the money for either, I think most people would take the ZR1 because, well... most people want to be able to listen to something other than engine drone in traffic.

Remove the HCP and you all get your insultaion and radios back, now you've gained 40lbs and it won't make difference to this monstrous V-10.

Actually the driver screwed up hitting that rev limiter so many times, what he need to do is move one up in gear and leave it there. This car has so much torque, there is absolutly no reason to shift like it was a Honda, nor bump the rev-limiter like he did.
One time I drove a 2004 Viper and I specifically remember from a stand still I could get up and go strongly in 4th. Crazy.

i'm curious to see the zr1 lap with a hired gun... not just a gm tech driving.

that being said, the acr's time is very impressive!

Only 16 of GM’s 266,000 employees are permitted to drive the Milford Road Course, ZR1's chassis-dynamics specialist Jim Mero is one; That "GM tech" is nothing to sneeze at. Also the ZR1 vid shows he was the better driver. Compare.

Also here is Mero's interview.

GM has test engineers with racing classifications which nobody that frequents this site wlll ever attain. There's a guy from GM's desert proving grounds that comes to speak every year who has taken more professional driving tests than most could imagine. GM doesn't let just anyone out on the test track to do 200+mph...

Insulation?

40 pounds sounds pretty light though. Granted the V-10 has tons of torque, but I wonder what the weight difference between the ACR/HCP and standard Viper is.

I'm not sure of the tread wear rating on the ZR1 tires, but the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup has a rating of 80.

Track performance is maximized in the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR via several weight-savings initiatives. The savings were achieved with the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup Tires, Sidewinder lightweight wheels, and StopTech brake rotors. With the aerodynamic and suspension elements, the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR is 40 pounds lighter than the Viper SRT10 coupe. The optional Hard Core package further reduces the weight by another 40 pounds, for a total weight savings of 80 pounds.

Oh and the Viper SRT-10 weighs in at 3424lbs.
