I was just thinking as to what would make a great Z/28 and everyone seems to want the 7 liter Z06 engine or the Supercharged ZR1 engine. You know what though? I think they should go back to their roots.
Instead of a big V8, they should take the four banger from the Colorado, cast it in all aluminum, turbocharge/Intercool it, and toss it under the bonnet. You could pull an easy 300hp out of a setup like that and have a nice light high revving engine. Just like the original 302 Z/28 engine. Then lighten the car, take out all the power stuff and the AC. Replace a lot of bits with carbon fiber. Lower the weight to about 3000lbs at least. Put some huge meaty tires, a six speed manual and some huge brakes and make it a M3 killer that can get 25mpg.
Whatcha all think? The SS should be a straight line drag car, the Z should be a handler.
i think we've discovered why you don't work for the performance division of GM
they can put a 4cyl in the base model and let consumers do whatever they want to it. NOBODY is going to pay a premium price tag for a z28 with a 4cyl engine. z28 and SS camaros need big v8's...period.
/end thread
GO PATS!!!
they dont really need big v8s, just a v8
really i dont understand why they got rid of the LS1, 5.7 liters was plenty displacement no need for 6 or 7 liter engines
i mean they are getting 300 out of a V6 nowdays with well under 5.7 liters of displacement , they could make 400hp out of that size an engine if they wanted to

lets go threw all the r&d for a 4 cylinder when we have one already
/sarcasm
v8.......= excellent
swapped, supercharged, intercooled, 2.9, fun
the 3.6 DOHC with VVT already does 300 hp, with sufficient torque to boot.
NO NEED.
My Cav
I give up...
i'm buying a VW those people love trees, so they should love eachother too... "Andy"
I was reading an article where since the camaro will be sold worldwide they were considering putting the LNF motor under the hood.
wich would be great for an autocrosser. light in the front and high revving.
but here is the thing, unless it says either lotus or evo on the side who the hell would pay 40k+ for a 4cyl even if it wasant labeled "musclecar"

Those so naive, so hard headed, so narcissistic, that think that buy their own efforts can single handedly change the world, are always the ones that do.
The base camaro with a V6 is going to be around 25, with a 4 it would be the same or less
the only one costing 40k is going to be the v8 model
and i wouldnt pay 30k for an evo much less 40k, esp the new one, hell the turbo cobalt ss beats the hell out of it for 15k less and has a better warranty both straight line and on the 'ring
1989 Turbo Trans Am #82, 2007 Cobalt SS G85
actually an evo 8 runs 13.3ish stock im pretty sure even the ss/tc doesnt run any faster than low 14's maybe with a good driver high 13's
Knox buddy please put down the crack pipe
nononono... I wasn't saying put a four banger in it merely for the sake of it being four cylinder. I meant that the new Z/28 should be like the 1967-69 one was: a high revving, lightweight, handler priced near (or under) the base SS price. If a small V8 would do the trick, fine, I got no problems with that. I merely suggested a four because of the weight savings. But if people want the biggest V8, ehhh... why not? Won't weigh THAT much more. I'll be happy with any Z/28 that comes out as long as it handles (and rides) better than any eurotrash car.
Back in the 1960's American cars were some of the best in the world, it's about time you guys reclaimed that title.
I thought the colorado's were 5 cyl?
13.520 @ 98mph! 220whp 234tq
Hell they could even bring back a really old motor and do some work on it. Pontiac's 4.9L turbo V8 would do the job and still get pretty good gas milage.

only the higher end ones.
I just wanna see the camaro be successful... but some people are still waiting for Jesus to come again.
Nope.
all i wish gm would do is be able to build the car with out radio,p locks, windows etc.. a bare bones car with power. IMO
maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow....... but some day

Vipers are selling oh so well too.
I for one wish GM wouldn't price the Camaro in the stratosphere.
