i never understood why safety features such as air bags are even offered as options. they should always be standard
they didnt say anything about the frontier or much about the ranger other than those seats in the back. Didnt say anything about the dakota either, or is that a midsized truck

Technically I think the Colorado is considered a midsized...

I didn't know they built small trucks. They're all too big to be considered "small".

You know what would make things a LOT more safe on the road, and decrease insurance costs ?

Mandatory safety courses, and driver re-certification every 5 years. The best part about that is it will make every car safer because the twit behind the wheel won't be a twit anymore.

Point of fact: IIHS stated at one point that airbags only increased the likelihood of surviving a given impact type by 16%, so that's about $3500 (or figure 8% on the price of the car) for a 16% increase... Seat belts increased the likelihood by about 78% (and only cost about $65 even with explosive pre-tensioners), but if you're not at the point where you're exposed to risk of an accident, you're going to survive it. Defencive Driver training would cut the number of accidents and the number of accident fatalities and injuries a lot more than a bunch more airbags. If you want proof, look at Germany's licensing system.

Just my 2 bits.

That video has an advertising quality about it. Why would a comparison be made when the comparable options exist.

Anyway, I always like to add a rant about the Safety Police.

The safer we feel, the more reckless we become. Drive a little ragtop around town and you soon believe everyone is out to get you.

Stability control has made people think they know how to handle a car. Comfort behind the wheel justifies, in their eyes, reckless and distracted behaviour.

Mini van drivers can be some of the most aggressive and foolish. It is encouraged by the sheer footedness of the car platform with the added attitude derived from a high seating position. That's all great unless the guy behind you can't see past your van. It's safer to have a good view, but at what cost?

In my opinion "Safety features" are a way to add profit into a vehicle. They instill false confidence and likely cause more trouble in the end. We continue to add safety to vehicles by adding weight. It seems to me that it's a catch 22. If the things we are hitting keep getting heavier....and so on.

No matter how many tests we put people through, the attitudes won't change. I would say that the majority of drivers should never have passed in the first place. That's with current testing standards. What we need to figure out is why do Germans take driving so seriously? I won't believe it's a simple fact of legislation. It's a cultural thing.

I never understood why people bought cars with the intent of crashing them....maybe it's just my imagination, but that's how it sounds to me. xD
