88' VW Cabriolet

So I love my fire and NEVER will get rid of it but Since I have to deal with so much stop and go traffic this deal just hit me well. I bought a 1988 VW Cabriolet for 1000 bucks. The top is in great shape the interior is almost mint and its a pretty decent car for 1000 dollars. So yay for me finally getting my own stick and having a "beater" car. My question is can anyone point me in the direction of some good sites for VW info and maybe some forums. The engine has compression problems at start up and it burns oil so I know the rings are in need of replacement I really would like to get a manual and any info you guys have (ahem) Scarab if he is still around. I will try to get pics up later.

Pics? I love the old cabrios. They look great. As for VW forums, When I was thinking of buying a VDub, the dealership pointed me at vwvortex. It seemed like a fairly knowledgeable community.

My brother just picked up a '91 for a beater too, should be running circles around the mpg his Ram gets. It's red with a black top. Can't help you otherwise, just wanted to share

I had a '93 Fox and used the vwvortex forums religiously. Can't go wrong with them.

vwvortex is a GREAT resource for anything VW/Audi, and even beyond. Just be careful posting there, some of the members can be rather harsh (even worse then here).

Also check around for local clubs, up in RI we have Ocean State Dubs, and that is another group of really smart people.

That would be great! Do you know where I could get any manuals for it?
