That's the last time I buy something on impulse because I feel that it "looks" good. Those heavy 19 inch axis wheels completely ruined the handling of the sti and they are long gone.
I was new to subaru's and didn't realize the chassis and such that's why I bought the axis wheels.
I have purchased new wheels, RAYS (made by Volk) Gram Light 57f's. They are the lightest forged wheel available in 18 inch for the STi, and the handling and power dilivery is greatly improved.
The Axis wheels weighed 28 pounds per rim.
The forged Rays weigh 16 pounds. =)
I plan on powdercoating them gunmetal or black eventually, but looks are beyond importance at this point!
Im dropping 2,300 buck in Sept on RCE/kw racing coilovers and front and rear swaybars. This seems tobe the hot settup with subie time attack/autocross drivers as its' completely adjustable. I have alot more planned to do to the chassis after that but I won't go into detail just yet
All i can say is it is great to be back in cali with all of these premier subie tuner shops available to me firsthand =) I'll keep you all posted!
Leave them alone!!
Looking good Brett, I wish you were still in MI so it would give me a reason to go to the Machine Shop more often! So many shows I didn't go because I couldn't find anyone who wanted to go...
You didn't realize that heavy wheels = More unsprung weight = Horrid handling + Reduced power? ?
Douche.
J/K. You have to realize that slinging gigantic rims may LOOK cool, but they're terrible for power delivery, ride, handling and... basically everything else.
If you had gone to the 17" rim (assuming they will fit over the brakes) you'd also gain mechanical advantage because you'd be spinning even less mass, and the reduced size means you'll be able to exert more mechanical force on the pavement.
If you want to auto X/time attack, you may as well accentuate the positives that you get with the car.
Hated the 19's. Just not that kind of car IMO so I lost interest in it.
You have my attention once again needless to say!
i liked the 19s, a lot!
but these are damn hot too, and with the weight savings they were defiantly a great buy!
i wouldnt powdercoat them though. first of all theyre Rays... you dont alter Rays. Second u drive an STI, those are made to have bronze wheels on blue!

btw do your research, I've heard of powder coating weakening forged rims. I'd hate for you to break a rim, they're not cheap
looks awesome!
I have decided to keep the color the same, as I said looks really didn't matter to me at this point. The color has grown on my so much now I really like the look and I don't feel the need to change now. As mentioned also blue and gold is very common on subaru's so it's a good combo =)
I actually took the STi impreza logos off of the side of the vehicle also, so now there is no Sti badging or emblems anywhere on the vehicle.
Thanks for the positive feedback, I admit my mistake with the past wheels, but im on the right track again and Im having -Harman Motive- work on my car they are responsible for building record holding time attack Sti's on the west coast. I have become friends with alot of great subie guys in the area and im learning valuable information about the car, and what the best parts are from experience, we do autocross and canyon drives together to the ocean Im really becoming addicted to handling that's why im anxious to get the coilovers and bigger swaybars in, makes a HUGE difference in the sti's, my buddy's car is on rails!
I'll keep you posted, from here on every mod will be for performance
Blue STi + Bronze wheels = Super hot. Leave em alone like you stated.
Keep us updated.
so i take it you are actually going to compete in some AutoX or dirt racing?
Its a blue Subaru, and you have gold rims. Its perfect.

28 lbs? Jeez. That's retarded. The stock MS6 18"'s are heavy and they are 24lbs.

could not have said it any better
looking very nice.
LOVING the Ray's wheels.
my 02 on JIC flta2's was amazing when it came to cornering. they are way too stiff for dirt though so I'm back on the stock setup.
can't wait to see what else you have in store!
Those are way better. The gold on blue is way played out. I agree on the color change even though it looks pretty sharp as is.
I have noticed a trend towards less bling and more substance behind wheel choices. It's about time.

Exactly why it is.
dumbest argument i have ever heard
so red and white is played out cuz its on the Canadian Flag?
is blue and white played out cuz its been the Maple Leafs colors forever?
I did compliment him on his choice and only agreed with his comment on changing the color. His choices on the cars I know of are always tasteful. Even the last set of wheels, however heavy they were.
I saw three STI's today. All with bronze. One driver was actually sporting a subaru rally jacket....It's played out. Of course, if you have truely nice wheels, it's almost entirely forgiven. It's certainly better than choosing pink wheels just because nobody else will.
If you are trying to be Captain Canada, red and white can be entirely played out and done already too many times. Red and white(Canada) sells anything from beer to undies.
Anyway. I'd take that car the way it sits.
I guess it's a matter of opinion. Taste vs. Ubiquity
The blue/gold combination on a Subaru is a classic combination (even if it's with aftermarket rims), just like the black/gold on Trans Ams with the snowflake rims... Might not play to everyone's tastes after you see it several dozen times, but it is still a good match.
@!#$, silver rims are played out, you know that?
they are on EVERY CAR!!!! shiiiiiiit! so played out
so are hubcaps too, totally played out
and doors! ZOMG! why do all cars have doors! (exception: Wranglers with doors removed)
I had to look up Ubiquity up.
There is no question that the color combination works well. Probably why you see so many companies use it.
Did I mention that I met Capatain Canada tonight. His Canadian flag cape and rum mixed in a red and white Coke bottle blew his cover imediately. His super senses obviously dulled since he was trying to ask me if the fireworks had gone off already. How loaded do you have to be to not notice a couple hundred grand in fireworks go off?
I forgot to mention that the Leafs have pretty much made the blue and white combo the flag of shame.
I suppose any good color combination can be called played out. I kind of regret I said it. I appreciate this car so much more now that it has the appropriate wheels to match it's potential. I think more people have come to realise that the worst place to add weight is in the wheels.
