I'm guessing that the near absolute maximum is 100hp/Litre for a Diesel and 200hp/Liter for a Gas engine. But I doubt that would fit the definition of "streetable". What I like to know is what's the max for an engine that won't near a teardown/rebuild every 2000 miles and won't need replacing every 10,000? I'm guessing 75hp for a Diesel and about 140hp for a Gas engine (Obviously both would be Turbo/Supercharged), but that's just a guess.
Anyone have any definite numbers?
Theres no real answer to this question.... Each motor is 100% different even if it has the same engine code.... some last some dont.
The most impressive i've heard is the original S2000 motors, they hold the guinness record for a stock engine for hp/liter at 240hp out of a NA 2.0 liter engine.
Many modern diesels (obviously not stock) have surpassed 100 hp/litre.
"Nasty Girl" has dynoed 1036 HP. I am not sure if the engine has been bored or stroked though. Regardless you would have a hell of a time opening up a 6.6L to over 10L.

as much as your tires can keep planted to the ground
Hell look at the GM's 2.0T... 260 hp thats 130 hp/liter out of a bone stock car... obviously you gain far more then 20 hp and still have streetable and reliabale.

That's exactly what I was thinking too. That's why I guesstimated 100hp Diesel and 200hp Gas. However, I'm sure that the higher you go, the more exponantially damaging to an engine it can be. Either because of high revs or high pressure. Still, there must be some wiggle room. A Top Fuel dragster makes about 1000hp per liter, but it can only do that for about 10 seconds before exploding. So, not exactly reliable or streetable. Likewise a Formula One car makes about 325hp per liter, and even though those vehicles are hardly "streetable" I'm sure they could be detuned for the street and used more or less daily.
Matty: I'm surprised that a Diesel can do more than 100hp per liter, but not shocked. There's a lot of potential in Diesel engines. I read up on the"Nasty Girl" truck (they don't say how much the stock 6.6 V8 was bored out, but it can't be more than 7 liters) So I'd guess makes about 140hp per Liter, maybe slightly less. Still damn good.
So 140hp per Liter for Diesel seems to be the top. What about gas? Anyone have any ideas? 250? 300?
my 2.0L has 260whp which is 300hp ... so far so good

that nasty girl truck was not bored out. it is 6.6L. Its just a built ass motor thats all. 82psi to achieve those numbers.

unless you have a jdm f20c in your s2000.. like me ..
250hp out of a 2.0
boost and n/a play a big part in this..
isnt ghostriders bike 500hp out of a 1300cc?
12.5@116 2.0 60ft
No offense, but how do you expect to find a "definite number"? Is this a serious question?

Naw, I just sometimes like to talk tech and shoot the bull. I just think it's fun to sort of pick people's minds on interesting subjects.
