I've read a lot of your posts on this car and it seems like a mixed bag of disappointments and positives.
How is the car in terms of straighline performance and how is the aftermarket support for augmenting it? That header looks sick BTW. I read a lot that the 2.4 drops off up top and is more of a torque monster than a screamer. Is it the nature of that engine or can it be opened up with tuning (like the LE5
). I've considered these for a DD for sometime but never really researched it...

Mmmm... I wish we had those here. We have the new Corolla and Matrix XRS but I don't like the new style bodies (Glad I got my ZZ130 before the change). The tC just looks much cleaner.

the car it self is extremely nice. if there was anyway to sum it up it would be to call it a mini Lexus. if your coming from a cavalier it will be like a dream car. the only down point of this car is the rattles, some people get them some people don't (i think the ones that dont are just deff) but its really not as bad as i have made it out to be in some of my other posts, rattles just bother me. the car has really grown on me over the past few months and im starting to like it a lot.
as for straight line performance i ran a 15.7@90mph stock you can take a full second off of that with bolts-on's. ive seen a 14.7 pass done with a tC with the same mods as me and a NST pulley kit on street tires.
the engine stock is a very torquey. between the engine and the short gearing the car takes off really quick from a dead stop but losses steam around 5.5k. there isn't much in the way of tuning to solve this problem but once you put a header on the car it opens up the top end really nice while adding a bit to the low end as well. a full bolt-on N/A tC ( I/H/E/P ) will be putting down around 175whp on a dyno and around 165whp without the pulleys. which i don't think is to bad considering there really isn't any canned tuning like hondata for hondas out there for these cars yet. people who have tuned them with a FIC or Emanage have seen only very small gains(5-10whp) over a non tuned car . the ECU on the tC compensates pretty good for N/A mods and self adjusts the cam timing and fuel management on the engine accordingly.
Turbo the tC and it turns into a beast. 300whp+ on mild boost and stock internals is the normal and are something to watch out for.
the tC makes a great DD. it has the perfect combo of pep and fuel efficiency imho
the first and best mods you should do on these cars is actually suspension. they greatly benefit from shocks, springs and sway bars and other suspension parts. the car stock drives very nicely but the handling isn't very super sporty. they pull a .81G with stock suspension. right now im pulling a .90G with the TRD shocks/struts, TRD lowering springs and TRD rear sway bar. so as you can see performance in that area was greatly improved with a few simple mods. the car as it stands now handles much better then my Trans Am or 328i ever did and to me that says a lot

as for exterior mods, i don't have anything else right but the Lip kit, TRD drop and VRD grills
i am planing on putting on a carbon fiber hood, different side skirts and some nice lightweight 18" rims in the near future. ill post pics up of that when i get it all on the car
im also contemplating Tint and a rear lip spoiler. (any tint is illegal here so idk)
however my interior is done up really nice right now. i have full leather seating with red stitching, a short throw shifter, brushed aluminum peddles and a custom brushed aluminum dead pedal as well as aluminum door seals. it looks pretty sharp imho

i feel bad for you Canadians not getting tC's up there. i think there is a way now to get them though.
i think the newer ones (07-08) are able to sold there as they now pass your crash tests or something.
still the ones ive seen being sold in Canada are going for a lot more then they cost here.
check out dezod.com for tc tuning. He's local here in Buffalo and everything he fabricates and sells is top top quality. if you call, ask for paul. He does alot of engine management systems from scratch. i'm gonna bring my 08 civic down there when i get it just so he can check it out.

Good choice in vehicle. We do tons with these cars and they truly are fun if they are S/C'd or Turbo'd. We've made 454whp on one of them. Truly a monster.

i have been in and driven all 3 of the first Scions (tC, xA, xB) and while nice for their price and in their own respects, I would NEVER consider them anything near a Lexus in any category other than Mother company...
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

No, they don't pass crash tests here in Canada... but it's Toyota's stance that because 1: they're not sold at Toyota dealerships in the US, 2: they're not sold at Toyota dealerships in Canadia... they shouldn't have to make them comply... but if you want to bring it over the border you should totally be able to, and get warranty support from a Toyota dealership.

Loaded question. Depends heavily on tuning and octane used. We personally have made 350whp on stock internals, and others have blown their motors on 250whp. Our stock S1 kits for the tCs come with an 8 PSI spring.

I am someone who is very educated in tuning... I meant with a good tune what could these motors potentially handle?

some with stock internals have been pushed upwards of over 400whp though i would imagine that it wouldn't be to dependable though lol
some where around 300+whp for a DD tC is very doable
as for "mini Lexus" i really meant a to say baby Lexus which is exactly what it states. something that if given more time to developed and matured would be at a Lexus's level.... obviously its not at Lexus levels duh but the styling ques are there.
think of it like a little kid looking up to his big brother and trying to imitate what he does but cant quite match up to him as good.
I however believe if Toyota really wanted to with this car, they could have made it a much higher class car with fairly minor aesthetic and material alterations
a lot of people i know don't even know what a scion tC is and they think my car is a much more expensive car then it is and ask me how i could afford such a car... the leather upholstery really changes the whole interior feel of the car
btw the tC isn't a rattle box ether just has a few here and there which are normal, i just wasn't expecting to get them so soon. for the most part they are easily fixed with some weather striping if done right ( no more rattles for me right now .. crossing figures )
as for the Canadian thing i meant being able to get the car imported, that you can do now. i didn't mean Toyota was selling them on there lots
