Well my dad has found that it is time for a new car for him to drive. Right now he drives an 95 Jaguar that has 210,000 miles on it. He loves Jags, but he asked me to look around to see what he could get for about 18,000 new or used. I showed him the base models he could get new, and wanted to pass really fast. To give you an idea my dad is 6' 2" and about 250 so a small car is out the door. The car he has now looks just like this one.
The car that he has found that he likes is about 15-16,000 depending on miles and shape. 2005 Jaguar Type X
The lines are updated from the 10 year old bother, but this one is AWD and Jags first V6 from what I read. I would like to know if anyone has drove or had one to give me some ideas on what to expect. The Dealers can certify it up to 10 years 100,000 miles to make it seem better, but I have him going to go look at the 06-07 Passat 2.0 Turbo car that gives him some power and some good mpg. Cause the V6 AWD Jag is rated low, and with gas on the rise I kinda don't want him to get it. Give me some idea that he might like if you can keep it around 18,000. I like the newer VW, Mazda, and Acura cars that are out now. Most of the Acuras he would need to go older due to price. He doesn't drive to much any more since he is close to work. He was 45min to 1 hour one way before he moved. Thanks for you help guys. Forgot to add that under 40,000 miles would be a must.
2003-2004 Jaguar XJ8's go for around 18 grand. Slightly older XK8's can be had for a similar amounts. The X-type is okay, but it's basically a Ford Mondeo with a Jag badge. Not bad, but it's not a Jaguar imo.
I drove a 99 Jaguar XJR supercharged last week with 56k on the clock.
I can see why he likes jags, but its still a ford. It rode really nice and everything felt comfortable. If you have access to a car auction, this particular one went for $6,500 but the sunroof didn't work. Everything else was mint.
He understands about how Ford is a part of Jaguar, and I don't think he wants anything older then say a 04 w very low miles.
Actually, Jaguar is a part of Ford, and it's not really a Ford anyhow, there's no shared components with other brands' models as I recall.
I'd go with an X-Type or S-Type, but they're gonna be Gas pigs @ 20mpg roughly.... if you stick with $18000 as the price point.
Other than that, he may want to try the Nissan Altima's. The 3.5SE is comfy and if you're that hung up on Gas consumption, there's the old stand-by: 2.5S.
