Corvette ZR1 By The Numbers

Chevrolet announces performance results and pricing for the new ultimate-performance Corvette

DETROIT – The official Corvette ZR1 numbers are in and they're good. Very good:

* $103,300 MSRP (including $850 destination charge)
* EPA-estimated fuel economy of 14 city and 20 highway
* 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds
* 0-100 mph in 7.0 seconds
* Quarter-mile elapsed time of 11.3 seconds at 131 mph

The Corvette ZR1 also has a top speed of 205 mph (330 km/h), making it the fastest Corvette ever produced and ranking it among the global super cars of commensurate performance. None of those other super cars, however, equals the ZR1's performance-per-dollar ratio.

"The ZR1 is an incredible machine by any measure," said Ed Peper, North American Vice President, Chevrolet. "There's simply no other vehicle in the world that does a better job of balancing performance, price and fuel economy."

Performance perspective
The Corvette ZR1's 0-60 performance is 0.3-second quicker than the already-quick Corvette Z06 and the 0-100-mph performance is nearly a full second quicker - 7 seconds vs. the Z06's 7.9 seconds. It is performance that is equal to or better than many super cars costing substantially more.

"A favorable power-to-weight ratio gives the ZR1 an advantage over the competition and performance that has to be experienced to fully appreciate," said Tom Wallace, Corvette chief engineer. "Of course, on a racetrack, drivers of competitors' cars may appreciate the ZR1 in a whole different manner."

And the racetrack isn't the only place where the ZR1 trumps its super-car competitors – it beats them at the gas pump, too. According to fueleconomy.gov, the ZR1's EPA-rated 14 city and 20 highway mileage ratings beat 2008 competitors such as the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano (11 city / 15 highway); the Lamborghini Murcielago (8 city / 13 highway) and the Aston Martin V8 Vantage (12 city / 19 highway). They're competitive with the Dodge Viper (13 city / 22 highway) and the Porsche 911 GT3 (15 city / 22 highway).

Under the carbon-fiber hood
A new LS9 6.2L supercharged small-block engine powers the ZR1's performance capability. Heavy-duty and lightweight reciprocating components support high-rpm performance, while a new, sixth-generation supercharger (and complementing charge-cooling system) helps the LS9 make big power and torque across the rpm range. The engine is hand-assembled at GM's Performance Build Center, in Wixom, Mich.

In addition to the LS9 engine, the ZR1 is a technology powerhouse, designed with lightweight and unique components that reinforce its performance with a confidant feel on either a highway or road course.

Options
The standard ZR1 comes with accoutrements based on the Z06, including lightweight seats and lightweight content. The available uplevel interior package includes power-adjustable, heated and leather-trimmed sport seats (embroidered with the ZR1 logo); side air bags; Bose premium audio system; navigation system; Bluetooth connectivity; power telescoping steering column; custom leather-wrapped interior available in four colors and more. Chrome wheels are the only other available option on the ZR1. Detailed pricing noted below.

$103,300 Base MSRP including destination
$1,700 Gas guzzler tax
$10,000 Option package
$2,000 Chrome wheels

AT least it isnt like when the GTO came out with a $1200 gas guzzler tax. Of course if you opted to spend $900 for teh manual transmission you didnt have to pay the guzzler tax.

Give me one for a weekend and ill get one tank that is way under the EPA rated and one that is way over the EPA rated. I ll do the over one first.

Wast the early 90's ZR-1 a $50K vette? From what I recall teh ZR-1 option doubled the price of a Vette. They still sold those.

Well, that is one way to go about discrediting your opinion ...

Where did you EVER read where it said it would be under 100k?!?

And hell no I'm not jealous and I don't drive a J-body.

Regardless they will sale ever one of them, and it was always said the car would start off around 100k, never under it.

Am I missing something?

And the gas guzzler tax issue somebody mentioned, one gets taxed when it consumes to much gas. This Vette now consumes more fuel because the 6th gear is not as tall like the other Tremecs, they are now a close ratio 1-6.

You use the word diggin and you tell me to learn to speak English? Wow, guess we can't all be hypocrites like you can we? Also, I was digging on him because his ROFL emoticon wasn't needed. Just because HE wouldn't pay that much for the ZR1 doesn't mean others wouldn't. I rarely rag on people, but moronic statements aren't needed and I will treat this as such.

How about I don't and stop responding to comments like yours? It's funny actual, he never said anything to me about my comment and yet others jump me for it...

Some of you really need to stop taking internet comments seriously, especially ones not directed to you. Now before someone jumps in and comments on the comment I made regarding my friend whom I know personally being degraded by someone else on here. He is my friend in real life as well, so it goes beyond a "lets jump someone because we don't like his reply to what someone on else here said."

Regardless, the ZR1 is badass and can't wait to drive one someday

deftones...get a grip man.
Calling out someone because they drive a Lexus does sound like you're being a little hater b*tch. You have to agree to that.
And I too remember it being rumored that GM was going to try and keep it under $100k too, i believe my Motor Trend magazine has that in it's first drive article too. So really, so far you’re the only guy saying any different, I’d say you are the one that has no credibility at this point.

Half of MT writes in there magazine is BS. GM itself even said the base price would be around 100k, not under. If people can post links saying otherwise then I'll respectfully retract my statement. BTW I'm not the one who got all bent out of shape and badmouthing other users, but I guess some people cant take a joke.

umm... yes you were. you were absolutely the first and so far ONLY person ripping on people about what they drive for no reason. he laughed at the price, you turned into a 15 year old whiny jealous douche with a big mouth. quit while you are ahead, stop acting like an all -knowing, stuck up, moron.

If you can afford a 100g car, 17 isn't gonna break the bank.

People that can affort things like this pay 10g to the phsycic and a thousand for a hair cut without much bother. They are laughing at us freaking over what really is a cheapo car.

I'd take one in grey if I were one of those @!#$s.

sorry i was actually out last night and not on the computer unlike some. like i said if gm made the turbo sport cav would people seriously drop about 40-50k on a cavalier? to me its the same thing. yes your getting alot of car for that 120k (with all the options) but for that price im not going to be driving a @!#$ gm car sorry.

Re: ZR-1 pricing revealed

Food for thought...
What this car compares to.
Mercedes SLR $400K
Porsche GT $400K
Lamborghini Murcilago $200+K
Ferrari F430 Stradale $200K

And you all laugh? What is so funny? PLEASE enlighten me.
Exotic materials, aluminum chassis, ceramic brakes, exotic car power, the $10K that will include leather everywhere in the damn interior...which is the same supplier that makes it for the Maybach and $103K-$115K
The ONLY cars/fans that can talk are the Viper and GTR crew, who knows what punch that the Spec-v GTR will give too.
The price is great for what you get.

i had this debate before. your comapring it to other "super cars". honestly if i had 120k to spend on a car it would not be a car like that. sure performance is everything for some people but for others its not. your comparing luxury sports cars to a gm sports car. a viper, gtr and vette yea i can see comparing together but the other cars you listed are not even close to the same. if you want to spend 120k on a vette then go head. you people sound like the srt4 owners when people say its just a neon. sorry but for 120k ill take a s550 or a m6.
