What's your favorite OEM Option/Gadget?

Mine has to be, without a doubt, the flappy paddle gearbox. I love them, they look cool and they make it almost worthwhile to have an automatic.

So what's your favorite "must order" optional equipment on a car that you wished all cars had and/or would always order on a new car no matter what the cost?

vert, t-tops, targa. absolutely the best and most enjoyable option any car could have.

This is going to sound weird, but I really like disc brakes. Haha, @!#$ drums.

As far as gadgets... I have no idea my cars are too cheap and a/c is for pussies.

I like the micro-fuel gauge I have in my '86 300zx. Basically, when you get to empty on the fuel gauge there's a guage right below it that starts at 1/4 tank so you have a better idea about how much gas you have.

clutch pedal was an option... you could have picked the auto
this is in other cars so the turbo counts since it was an option on OTHER CARS
and the gas pedal is standard but what about wheel chair people who cant feel their legs, they have hydrostat. so gas pedal is another option

Call me crazy, but no manual Windows. I swear if I have another car with those, I'm so doing the red-green power window mod.

its a toss up, theres a couple things i love

- nav system. after having one i couldnt go back to one w/o one
- totally keyless car. nice just walking up to the car and it unlocking automatically plus the push button start.
- lighted side mirrors and door panels. again just walk up to the car and the mirrors like up pretty much the whole ground plus when you open the door, the bottom of the door panel lights up along with the inside door handle.
- 1 touch windows. push it once for down and once for up. didnt think it was a big deal until i got into someone elses car that didnt have 1 touch up.

I like the automatic door locking feature on both of my cars. I also like the automatic headlight feature on my Sonata. The steering wheel mounted audio controls have really grown on me with the Sonata, so much that when I drive the Mustang, I catch myself trying to work the radio with the invisible audio controls on the steering wheel. I definitely like the Driver Information Center on both of my cars...especially with the MPG feature which helps me keep my driving in check (for the most part) so that I can maximize MPGs.

The one feature I miss is the sunroof. I haven't had a car since my base model '03 Cavalier that has had one. I really miss that bit of open air feeling one can get with a sunroof.

Analog Fuel consumption meter on the Altima SE-R. I swear, that should be mandatory for EVERY car... even if you have to retro-fit and calibrate it.

Want to fix the fuel "crisis"? Install those on every car so you can know when you're burning more fuel than absolutely necessary.

Other than that: A/C.

I loved in my T-bird that it had auto bright light dimmers. You turn on your brights and it senses when another car is in range of being blinded by them and dims them for you. That was nice.

My favorite gizmo is Cruise Control. It will help you save gas and pisses cops off...they can't write tickets if your not speeding.

I'll take every gizmo my old beater 1990 Pontiac 6000 had:

Full time AWD w/ locking low range transfer assembly
4 wheel 10.5" disc brakes w/ABS
4 wheel independent suspension w/ rear air suspension
Accessory nozzle running from the air compressor (great for inflating basketballs!)
5 speaker amplified sound
9 way power seats w/ 3 stage power lumbar and power adjusting headrests
Steering wheel radio controls
Full power (windows/locks/mirrors)
Cruise control
A/C

Only option it wasn't ordered with was memory seats.

Heh...my 2006 vehicle doesn't have half of the crap my free beater had.

Mine? An old one that's seldom heard of: Power Ashtray. GM made this an option in the mid-'60s. It consisted of a small tray that hung just under the dash with a small metal flex-tube that ran to a reservoir that mounted under-hood. You just laid you cig-butt in the tray, push down the special pedal to it on the floor, and vacuum from another special reservoir sucked whatever was in the tray into the first one. Interesting, huh?

Go beyond the "bolt-on".
