1976 GS400x?!

hey guys, im taking my motorcycle endorsement class here in a few weeks and im wanting to get a starter bike

my girlfriend and i were driving to the dog park and we passed a bike for sale, so we stop and look

its a 76 suzuki GS400x and he is asking 800 obo

well i call him up, talk to him, do a little research and they bikes blue book at 580, so i give him another call and he says the bike only has 3800 original miles on it so he wont go any lower than 500

the bike is in great shape other than some pealing paint on the gas tank that has rusted, and the guage face for the speedo is broken, so jsut some broken glass

the bike is not too powerful and not too showy, haha to say the least, but seems like a great starter bike

do you think i should buy it or look around for a better deal?

this is what the bike looks like BTW with a whopping 36 HP! haha

and it has brand new tires

opinions?

500 is worth it for just a starter, if this is the one you want & want it badly enough.

Go beyond the "bolt-on".

ok well im pretty sure i dont wanna go with that bike because of a few good points that a friend of mine brought up

we would need to more than likely bleed the brakes, and there is probably a lot of seals and such that have not ben maintained on the bike, and the rust on the gas can kinda makes me wat to shy away

BUT good news is is that that friend that told me about all this is selling a bike

its a 1982 yamaha XJ 650

the bike is a restoration project and the thing is damn near flawless, he really knows what he is doing

is rated at 71 hp, more than double the previous bike, the only thing that i would need to buy is some mirrors for it

from what i know he is selling the bike for about 1000 dollars, and with twice the power, and ten times the quality as far as the upkeep on the bike it kinda blows the old prospect out of the water

as the usual comments and questions are welcome, and i would love some feed back on this bike too

I like the GS400x. Brings back memories of a Honda CM400 I had.
