From Ford...
Ford will debut its 2009 Focus coupe on Fox's massively popular "American Idol" this Wednesday in a 45 second music video featuring the new coupe and the show's remaining contestants. The Focus coupe's "Idol" premiere marks the first time Ford has revealed a product on prime time TV.
Ford says it listened to youthful Focus enthusiasts and owners from around the country and used their feedback to help shape the new coupe's updates (the 2009 sedan will not get the exterior changes). Ford engineers say they have incorporated more sporty characteristics that, according to Focus marketing manager Sam De La Garza "could attract even more Millennials, or those people born between 1980 and 1995." Wow, Millennials, there's a new PR term we hadn't heard before. All you Millennials out there, prepare to be attracted.
Some of the sportier exterior design enhancements highlighted on both the SE and range topping SES models include redesigned front and rear fascias (that are said by Ford to more closely resemble the new Ford Fiesta compact car), new standard fog lights, and darkened chrome grille and headlight housings. Deleted from the new coupe's sheetmetal is the Focus' widely-panned fender vents. We say good riddance.
The SE receives a standard decklid spoiler with optional 17-inch dark chrome wheels, while the SES receives both features standard combined with an additional rear roof spoiler.
Powering the Focus coupe will be a slightly more powerful, 143 horsepower 2.0-liter Duratec 20 four-cylinder with revised, sport-tuned exhaust system or a Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV) qualified 130 horsepower 2.0-liter Duratec 20E.
Both engines can be mated to a five-speed manual transmission, while only the Duratec 20 can be had with a four-speed automatic transmission that reduces horsepower slightly to 140. Ford states that the four-speed automatic employs a revised final gearing of 4.2 and achieves quicker acceleration than previous Focus coupe versions. The 2008 Focus coupe with the the five-speed manual is rated at 24 city/35 highway, expect fuel economy numbers to be roughly the same.
Ford will continue to offer Microsoft's SYNC in-car multimedia system that integrated voice-activated commands and Bluetooth technology as a standard feature for the SES level coupe and optional on the SE.
If you don't get a chance to watch the Focus coupe on "American Idol", look for the 2009 Ford Focus coupe to hit dealerships later this summer with an MSRP beginning at $15,920.

is it just me or does the new focus coupe resemble a 95 style hyundai Accent? I could be wrong.
kudos to ford trying to appeal to the youth market.

2005 Infiniti G35 Coupe w/ Sport Pkg
Better.
but not great. Actually the 2008 Focus was a boring looking car.
Somehow Ford was able to find a way to make it even more boring.

Not bad, but the Cobalt/G5 are a million times better and have more hp. Nice try Ford, nice try.
I think thats a real step down from the SVT Focus
1989 Turbo Trans Am #82, 2007 Cobalt SS G85
that's is one ugly car... the area under the rear window is so big looks like they just deleted the rear doors of the 4-dr and called it a coupe. Looks like one of those Toyota Echo coupes... lol
Not my cup of tea... If I had the choice of that, or an SVT Focus, or a Turbo Cobalt, I'd look for the latter 2...
At least Chrysler has it right with their total re-design of the Caliber ...
This is just an abomination.
Even Ford's sh1t 'social life' commercials cant save them.
I really like the SVT Focus... but this, um, no

My first thought as well.

Don't be so sure that it couldn't be made pretty. Just look at how easy it would be (with some minor mods) to polish this turd into a gold bar.
Huh? Huh? All you'd need is an AWD system, some fender flares, an off the shelf 2.3 DOHC Turbo with a 6 speed, some much nicer wheels plus a GIGANTINORMOUS wing, and VOILA! You've got a Cozzah for the 21st century.

Even with all that..... imagining it in my head, it would still be boring. Just in a more "boy racer" form.

that is EXACTLY the first thing I thought
Brian
it looks like an escort zx2 had a love child with an kia.....not a good combo....
Ford is really dropping the ball by a) not offering the super high MPG 90hp 1.6 Duratorq Turbodiesel and b) not making an AWD Cozzah like I illustrated. If they had those extra two models I might actually sort of maybe think of buying a Focus instead of snickering, laughing, pointing and walking over to the Mustang instead. Not to mention that Ford would be a leading the pack instead of pathetically trailing it.

Agreed, Its good to see that Mr. Goodwrence and I still see through the same eye on the Focus vs Cobalt/G5.

hmmmmmmKay
when I brought my truck in to get some work done at the dealership I get handed an 07 @!#$us to drive around in for a few days.
instead of the normal beat the loaner car senseless shenanigans I usually pull, I brought it straight back to my house and switched out for my cavi.
I HATED that car. I hated the styling, I hated the ergonomics, I hated the crappy CLACKCLACKCLACK the turn signal made, I hated how when you hit the power locks you could feel the "thud" through the whole car, I even diddn't feel right getting in and out of it.
so there I was with a 2007 loaner car that I was free to beat the piss out of and I hated it so much I went running back for my 2004, base model, manual everything, 46000miles at the time "crappy" as they all say cavalier.
they would have to do a complete remake of the platform for me to even look in that cars direction ever again.
btw, the gas milage was worse to boot

oh yeah, and when I first got my cavi I had to take it back to get some work done that I got the dealership to promise me in writing. I got handed an escort ZX2.
I hated that car very much also
about 80% of how much i hated the fukus to give you an idea. and it still sent me running back to my cavi which was stock down to the air silencer at the time.

2008 G5 Interior (with extra red accent added, extra money):
2008 Focus Interior:
Now you tell me which one looks better and more up to date? I personally would pick the Focus over the Cobalt/G5 as in presentation to the driver/passenger.
