Off Road Ready!

I told myself I wasn't going to buy rims until I lowered the car, but with the deal I got for the rims (Drag DR17), 225/45/17 BFGoodrich g-Force KDW NT's and 16" Yokohama snow tires, all on 12 months no interest, I couldn't pass it up. Car will be lowered on KW Variant 2's as soon as the cash flow is available, then it's Turbo Time.

not bad i have seen worse. how do you like that tire size over the stock ones? i also want to go with the 225-45-17 on my G5 GT but im keeping my stock rims. my friend just picked up a red ion quad coupe its a nice looking car

Well with car not lowered yet it REALLY makes those wheels look even smaller than they already are. But I can tell when it's lowered it will look good. 16's are a small rim...but when my J was lowered the stock 16's still looked good. But i'm sure it was just they filled the well better.

Its not that bad. My friend painted his stockers on a Winsdor Blue jetta, and its pretty sick.

I just dont have a pic for reference at this time.

Looks alright.

But for the love of Jesus the merciful, stop now.

Turbo's? When the cash flow is available? Entry level Saturn?

Drop it, call it a day, and ride it dirty until you can afford the Benzamino.

Jeremy's Cav can pull off that bright gold anyday, not feeling it on the Ion. Afraid something cleaner more subtle would've looked way better, look at Steve's car considering you chose the same wheels.

How is it an entry level ion? There are 3 trim models for Ion's.

There is a base model with the 2.2 (entry)

There is Robs model with the 2.4

And there is a Redline model with the 2.0

So your attempt to be a "funny" smart a$$ on a J-BODY forum doesnt work. Seeing as how your knocking a platform that replaced the very car's site you are on right now.

So please stop knocking him and all other ION owners and dont bother blowing this thread up with your uselss drama.

it looks okay but I'd change that shade of gold to more of a bronze also +1 on dropping it and calling it a day, for what you would spend on that turbo you could have a foxbody running in the 12's and still keep your ion.

All Ion's are Entry Level Cars. You're confusing the type of car with the trim level. You could get a red line, and you'd still be driving a jazzed up, yet still very much ENTRY LEVEL CAR. The Ion's and J's are starter cars, they're ideal for young buyers either in or just out of school because they're good on gas and don't cost a lot. Once you get tired of them, you move to a better car (unless you really like the platform or have a serious lack of funds).

And well, they're not a MB, they're not a BMW, or what not. They're the low-rung on the totem pole.

I'd rather take an Ion or a Coby over something 3x the price for a few more features and a badge. Today's "Econobox" has everything I want and more (Note that I'm an easy to please consumer in the auto market. All I ask is that it have Heat, A/C and that it be even semi-reliable. Three easy requirements. Anything else is a bonus or a burden depending on how you look at it).

I won't even touch the don't mod anything that doesn't have a V8, isn't RWD or cost $50,000, it's a tired argument, and I don't care what anyone says, so your advice and comments are null.

I drive this car everyday, and I want it to be something fun, and I don't want to be a mullet head or have another car right now. I'll do what I want with my money and my car, if I wanted advice on what to modify I would have asked. I have resources to get cost on the turbo related parts, and free fabrication and dyno tuning available to me, so for a couple grand extra I can have a 12 second car that I can drive daily.

I've had bronze before in the same style wheel, without the polished lip, Team 5Zigen FN01R-C in bronze on my Z24:

Bronze looks like a brake dust covered wheel most of the time....

Joe, I planned on buying these wheels before I even bought the car before Chad bought those wheels that he sold to Steve. I've had 2 sets of gunmetal wheels, I wanted something new and different, and that's what I got. I was going to buy another wheel that was a duller gold without a polished lip in a different style but they were 8 weeks away on a boat in the ocean.

Thanks everyone for making this a why mod an economy car thread!

I love the wheels, they look GREAT with the polished lip!

And why not mod? Modding is fun [for some ], for others it simply sets your econo-box apart from the 12million others out there. It rather sucks going to a parking lot and finding three identical cars to your own parked right next to you. Leaving you trying to remember which spot you used and hoping you don't put your key into someone else's lock. I'd rather invest a little into ANYTHING I drive just to set it apart from the rest.

lol @ KDW's.

You have a pretty tire, but it lacks considerably in the price/performance division.

As for Turbo, hey whatever, but you could probably afford a new car that handles better and has more power than for what you're gonna get outta it.

It's not like an LS1 where you can drop 3-4K into a turbo set up and tun some big numbers.

actually , you missed it by 1

there is the base 2.2

then the 2.4 model

the the 2.4 with the sport appearance package(which the car in question has) gives it the redline looking kit

then the redline

wheels woulda looked better in a bronze than gold , but it still looks decent

I had the tires before, and I liked them, wet and dry traction is very good. I'm not Auto-Xing and I'm driving on them everyday in the summer, so I needed something that performed well, had a good treadwear rating and wasn't horribly expensive. I paid far less than what they list the tires for.

The same car as mine, in the same shop where I'm going to be taking it, made 475+ whp on 10lbs of boost for under 4g's, as far as the guy who worked on it, my sisters boyfriend told me. So as far as it being a waste of time, think what you want.

Good point GAM, Actually to take it just one step further...For an Ion owner to get testy about their car being called "Entry Level" is about the same as Neon SRT-4 owners losing battle to disassociate their trim level from the "Neon" car line. Sadly a Redline Ion is still just an Ion, and an SRT-4 is still a Neon. I kinda still like the wheels though i just feel it needs lowering in a bad way. by it sitting up so high it points out flaws and messes up the flow of the car.

Not terrible tires, just better tires can be had for the same money.

And yes, 475+ HP is a waste in a FWD car. You'll never use it unless you by drag slicks, and whats the point on a daily driver then really?

Because you can? Or because you REALLY enjoy shearing off axles and shredding tires?
