that's right, 1 series owns... my next car - though i'm only getting the lowly 128i w/ Sport pack, so basically the same car minus 65hp

I've wanted a 135i since i heard it was coming out with a 300HP twin turbo... a small car with a big engine... just imagine the modding possibilities when its a TT right from the factory

I was in love with the 135i until I saw it's price tag...IMO one of the most overpriced cars on the market (thanks in large part to the value of the dollar right now). Most magazines I've read that have tested it have come in with an as tested price of over 40k. Granted it is probably the "perfect" sport compact, but I can't justify paying that much for a perfectly balanced "civic" with a badass engine that actually looks good. Might as well wait and get a vette for that!

I built one on the BMW site for $32,650. Granted, that's the non-turbo, no HIDs, no keyless ignition, etc. Basically the "stripper" version. But, it did have the sport pack (suspension and seats) and premium Harmon-Kardon stereo - the two most important add-ons you can get (exactly how I'd order).

And after sitting in one, it is by no means even comparable to a Civic. Really not even comparable to a Vette (at least a C5) - just as fast, more comfortable, a backseat, handles just as well, a way nicer interior, etc.

That non-turbo version you spec'd is nowhere close in acceleration or handling to a vette...even a C5. The 135i even got smoked in a comparo vs. a new evo X in this months motor trend. I'm not arguing it's not an awesome car in general...just saying the $$$ just doesn't all up to what you get.

One of my best friends just ordered his, should be here soon. But I can't rationalize buying one. The power to weight ratio is great, and they can be made even faster with relatively few mods. However, the base price is absolutely rediculous. My car with the mods puts down more power, and handles better and i spent 12,000 less overall.

I was talking about the turbo version (sorry I didn't clarify), I know that the 128i would not be able to keep up, although the suspension is identical to the 135i (if you get the Sport package in the 128). And, I just read the Motor Trend article, the 135i ripped off a 4.7 0-60 and a 13.3@105.6 quarter - both a HALF SECOND FASTER than the new Evo - and, dare I say, exactly the same numbers as a C5 Corvette. Sure, on the track the Evo handily beat it, but if I have to get a hemorrhoid-pummeling ride on the street for that, I'll take the nicer ride, better interior, better looks (subjective of course), and faster straight-line speed any day. Maybe that's just me, maybe I'm (and I hate to say this for fear of sounding arrogant) too "grown up" for that.

For me, I was only mildly interested in the car before seeing it in person. After seeing it in person, I knew that it was going to be my next car. My rationalization for buying one is purely emotional. Same reason I bought my motorcycle - for the price I paid for it, I could've gotten two or three other bikes, or, hell, a pretty decent used car, but I have no regrets at all for my purchase. It's not the fastest bike, the best-handling, the most comfortable, or any of the other countless aspects that you could use for comparison, but when I get on and crank the engine over, I couldn't imagine an experience like it on any other bike. And that's how I felt when I took a seat in the 1 Series, like it was "my" car. Yeah, for the same price you can get a G8 GT, or a Legacy Spec.B, or a new Evo, or this or that, but when it comes down to it, if it doesn't make you happy, what's the point of owning it? Even if Mr. Goodwrench doesn't approve

consider that the 135i has the exact same motor found in the 335i
consider that 2600 bucks buys you a vishnu Stage 1 upgrade (computer/cat) that yields 400-410hp
than consider that's just the tip of the freakin iceberg

But there are still other options *cough*r32*cough* where I have every bit of luxury and the cushy ride and everything of the 135. While yea I'm half a second slower in the quarter, i'll out slalom it by 25mph as will the new evo. And I dont have to deal with a harsh ride on the street. Supercharged and putting out 450hp i still come in like I said earlier 12 grand cheaper. The price is the kill factor, it's a great car don't get me wrong. I just can't justify 40,000 on a car that is competing with cars in the 30,000 class.

BMWs never really excited me. Too many features and electronics for my taste. Gut it, and maybe I'd like it, but all the leather, heated seats and traction control doesn't give me a car boner.
