Tadge Juechter, Corvette ZR1's chief engineer announced that the ZR1 will go into production this summer and that it will be limited to only 200 units a year. He also announced the ZR1 will be "the most fuel-efficient 600-hp car you can buy in the world." Juechter added, "We expect to announce pricing in May, and all performance numbers will be run with production vehicles over the next two months."As you probably saw, we announced the top speed as 205 mph," responded Juechter. "The ZR1 has also been extremely durable in our testing, so the car certainly has the potential to take the World Speed Endurance Record. However, we are currently focused on a perfect launch and getting the ZR1 into production. We will talk about record attempts later."

ahh man only 200, that means the orders have been already placed.. so when I win the lottery I'll have to wait till next year..
**changes are here**
"the most fuel-efficient 600-hp car you can buy in the world."
OMG, are they serious? When you fork over that much money, I highly doubt your going to care about what gas mileage your going to get, half of these cars will only get drink once or twice a week anyways.
id be suprised if they sell all 200 unless they work on the price
im sure the ZR1 will top its 205mph speed they have given , the current Z06 is in that over 200 range stock now
sucks its gonna be 200 , means motor parts are gonna be harder to get

Which is why they will be eating the majority of the cars on the dealership's lot. I'm still unsure on why they don't build the car as the orders come in.
-dan
why cause they are to much different from the other vette models
easier to built 200 at once
I like the idea of the limited production run. Maybe because I likely could never get one anyway. It's a halo car, meant to share lineage with the regular lineup.
I bet all will be sold each year. I knew a guy that spent 89,000 on a ZR1 in the 90's. That was easily twice the money of a normal vette.
What I don't like is the likeyhood that most of the goofballs that buy this will sit it in storage, never to be seen until they figure they will make profit selling it.

You should go on tour with comedy like this...
they couldn't keep these cars on the lot for 150k, so its safe to say, 100k + dealer markup will be plenty
I think a limited run is the way to go. Vehicles are too mass produced these days and you're left with nothing special. Even at 2000 units, it's still going to be something special. No matter how unique and different you try to make a car, it's not going to be anything worth keeping, because in all reality, you can just buy another one in the same trim, color and give it the same modifications as you did before.
I'd like to see more "limited production" vehicles out so that the market becomes less disposable. If people had a car that was as near to truly unique as you can get while still turning a profit, there could be so much less waste, and people might actually give a rat's ass about what their car would look like in three or hell, even seven years (yes, I know those are odd benchmarks, but even my dad, the king of cheap, trades his up every eight or so years. 11 years for trucks. His trucks were a '72, an '83, a '94 and an '05. The '83 and '94 are still on the road today. He still owns the '94, and I know the owner of the '83. Not sure what happened to the '72, but I imagine it's long gone).
I guess my point is, limited production vehicles will make the cars even more popular since they will be seen as something of a collector's item. People will take care of them, and hopefully be careful where they use all that horsepower.

Please name one with matching performance and exclusivity.
Id like to know how these 100k plus cars sell so well, I mean really is there that many rich people?

There are plenty here in northern Illinois. I can't imagine the amount in areas of Florida and especially Cali.
Thanks Jinxed. That was a typo.

Yes, especially the last 8 years.

i never said anything about matching it and being exclusive. i said there are other cars out there that i would personally take over the zr1.
Sure, you could buy a used Ferrari for 100g's with the same performance. Then your stuck with a $1200 oil change. Cost of ownership is applicable.
Even at 100, the Zr1 outperforms anything out there for the price. It's still a bargain in the sports car world.
So, what better car is there for the price? What new sports car would you chose?
The fact is, when the public is suffering, you can be assured that the rich are smiling. Recession is the time for the powers that be to take the resources back form the public.
What scary is that the last time ridiculously opulent cars were offered, the great depression happened.

if im spending 100k on a car its not gonna be a sports car sorry. maybe people have different taste. maybe not all rich people are buying ferraris or vettes.
But we are talking about a sports car????? Of course there are lots of cars selling for around 100g's. We must have reasonable limitations when drawing car comparisons.
I would say the majority of moderately wealthy sports car buyers are buying Porsche. Best performance and refinement available as a package.
