Well i decided the Turbo was fun, and no one around had a turbo'd E30, but i figured i would try something.... "Different"
So i decided to take the car apart..

Heres the old BMW turbo'd motor..( OMG! whats that in the background!!?? hmm?)

YUP! you probaly guessed right! a GM 5.3L VORTEC. ( aka LS1, has alot of LS1 parts to make fit  )

Tried to do a few test fitments with the fan on.... BIG engine... tiny car...

Decided i had to take most of the motor apart to get it to fit in the engine bay. So exhaust headers, fan, intake, and a bunch of crap had to come off!! :yuck: But I got her in there.

Now that i got the Engine to somewhat fit, time to pull the motor back out, clean the engine bay up a little, and try a teat fir for the 4l60e tranny.

Got the motor and tranny set in the engine bay. had to do alot of customizing to the tranny tunnel to get the tranny to fir because of the wide pan on the 4l60e. I also had to go with a GTO oil pan cause the truck one was a monster. Had to have my Buddy customize it a little so it would fir over the front steering rack.

So after all that fun work i HAD to get an LS1 intake, waterpump, and whatnot. the Truck intake sat way to high, and i really didnt feel like cutting my hood. Also had to do the waterpump because it was more designed for just the Truck intake. So i had to get a LS1 waterpump.

Then from there i just got lazy with picture taking and just went all out and finished the car up. I did all the motor mounts, Tranny mount, had a custom driveshaft done, and whatnot all myself. I did all this work in my garage at my apartment..... :bang: :bang: :faint: :faint:

Shes not completely done but pretty much. I had to send out my PCM to get reflashed to elimate VATS ( vehicle anti-theft system ) cause when you start the car itll die.
so all in all... this is what she looks like RIGHT now. still have alot of work to do. My intake is ghetto rigged right now cause i have NO room for anything. My exhaust is worse! had to route the drivers side to the passengers side, and it looks tacky. but itll do "for now" ( this is not a LS2 but the covers look nice!! ) Still on Jack Stands too!

Somehow, when I read he was taking his engine out, I kinda figured it'd be an LSx swap. And I was right! German engineering + American engine = pure sex!

boo for the use of LS2 covers on a non-LS motor

and shoulda used a LS1 atleast , been money better spent keeping more weight off the nose .

I slightly agree. When you take that thing off the jack stands it's going to drop like a lead balloon.
The stock suspension is not rated to hold up that monster. But good work.

from wikipedia , its a L but not technically a LS

Quote:

Generation III

The Vortec 5300, or LM7/LM4/L59/L33, is a V8 truck engine. It is a stroked (by 9 mm) version of the Vortec 4800 and replaced the 5700 L31. L59 denoted a flexible fuel version, while the LM7 was the standard version of the engine.

Power output is 285-295 hp (213-220 kW) and torque is 325-335 ft·lb (441-447 N·m). Displacement is 5.3 L (5328 cc) from 96.01 mm bore and 92.00 mm stroke. Vortec 5300s are built in St. Catharines, Ontario, Romulus, Michigan, and Silao, Mexico.

That guy needs to get his engines straight. LS1 = 5.7L, not 5.3L. I would like it better if it was actually a LS1, not a Vortec. LS1s have aluminium blocks and heads, but i dunno about the Vortec engines.

The Vortec and LS motors share some parts and I have thought about doing this. 2900 lb. coupe with lots of power, mmmmmm.
