my uncle bought a 1987 ford ranger 2wd with a 2.9L V6 and he didnt really want it so he gave it to me but its got a few problems,,,,,,,, its got 249XXX miles, extreme lifter noise, and doesnt like to go over 35 mph

ive been trying to figure out why its only goin 35. ive put in new plugs and fuel filters and had the timing checked.

does anyone one have any input on what could be the problem ?

iv been thinking about putting in a 302 or building up a toyota 22R and droping in. but i dont know how hard it would be or if comeone makes swap kits for differnt engines.

Like you just can't get the power to go faster or its not shifting or what? I dunno about those engines, well the 302W would probably work but i've seen a couple rotary powered rangers running around, they're fairly quick and loud as hell haha.

If its an auto the tranny is proboly messed up. Proboly the torque converter. My overall experiance with fords is the best fix is junking them and getting something else.

"Project 69'"
1969 Chevrolet C/10, 1/2 ton, 2wd
-Boosted LS1?
-Richmond ROD 6-speed(will get sometime)
-Posi 12-bolt(built w/eaton posi unit and richmond 3.73 gears)
-Disc brake and 5 lug swap
+little extras

drop in a v8 and new tranny and call it a day
but unless you have no power and that is why it cant go over 35, it sounds like the tranny
if it sounds like it has power and gets to 35 pretty easy, its definitely the tranny

i can floor it but it will only rev out a little bit and just stop at around 35 its like it not getting enough gas so i think that one of the fuel pumps is going out

pull the valve covers and make sure all the lifters are pumping up...might not be running on all cylinders

well i found the problem...................

heads we NOT GETTING ANY OIL all the passage ways were blocked by gunk and 4/6 intake springs were broken and the push rods were cracked/ bent or extremely loose........

so I've made up my mind to put in a 302, bag it, shave it, and turn it into a hot rod mini truck.

I've found the motor swap kits but i haven't found any kits to bag it. i know a lot of people make their own systems but i don't know anything about custom bagging so does anyone know of a place that sells kits or a place to guide me with what i need?

and is there and good places to buy neat stuff like dashes, door panels, head liners, etc from?
