my car was running like crap, bad idle, bad starting runs like crap and stalled coming to a stop from any speed. I replaced the 02 sensor and now it starts and runs fine, but drives as if its choking. it feels smooth and then putters like someone steps on its throat. any ideas?
More realistically it needs more gas to push it through its gasps for air. pressing the pedal a little harder causes it to clear its throat.
My dad's Lebaron used to do that every once in awhile. It's also a 94 convertible. I seafoamed it and then replaced the plugs and it doesn't do it anymore.
check the pickup under the distributor cap. it's a white piece of plastic w/ a shaft going through it that the rotor snaps onto. try and wiggle the shaft. if it moves even the slightest bit, than it needs to be replaced.it's a very common problem on eek cars with the 2.2/2.5 4 bangers and will cause hesitation and others problems such as the ones you described.
People say that what doesn't kill you in this life
will make you stronger. I'm not sure if that is true
or not, but i do know one thing-You have to learn from
it and it has to make you better.......it has to.......

By seafoamed do you mean dump a can in the gas?

I'll check it. I should have mentioned its a 3.0 v6 MPFI .
No, I did 1/3 can through the vacuum line on the brake booster and 1/3 can in the crankcase and 1/3 can in the gas tank. It seemed to work great. Also, what Mike said is a good idea too.
Did JoHn Voigt own it before you?
Well today the car was seafoamed, plugs, wires, rotor and cap replaced. the plugs were black as night and the wires fell apart pulling them off (were replaced by a shop in sept 07)
heres what the plugs looked like (all 6)
I cant believe all the "new" hardware was so old looking.
As soon as i was done i laid down a 35 foot burnout patch in the street in front of my house. Im proud its running again. and , btw the stick below the rotor is stiff :-)
Awesome....glad it's running well now.
Thank you slowwhitefire and strohlly7 !! Now tomorrow I get new temp tags and my car is driving again hehehe
