My dad was at his local Corvette club meeting last night and he was told this story...
Quote:
Here's a little story for you…a new member in our corvette club has a 2007 Z06. He's a guy of probably 45-50, is a pilot for Continental. He took the car out the other morning to go to breakfast and another corvette pulled up along side of him. He was playing by giving it some gas…letting off…basically, asking him to race a little. So he thought…lets go…I have a Z06, I'll probably kill him…he dropped a gear and took off, at 118 he was clocked by a state trooper…pulled over…the trooper said to him, if you can tell me exactly how fast you were going, I'll give you a break. The guy said the last time he looked he was going 105…the trooper showed him on the speed gun 118. So, his fine was over $500. Got 5 points, 6 month suspension of his license, assigned to a high risk insurance pool and must attend safe driving classes.
OUCH!
I know these are all over the place, but this is on a more personal level. He was lucky the state trooper was going to be lenient. However, it did not work in his favor.
Lesson learned.......
and we all know it
KEEP IT AT THE TRACK!!!!!
How did I know I was going to get a response like that?
It's more or less showing all the kids in here the sh*t they can get into. Such as that kid in wheel and tire who killed his tires doing burn outs. We drive Cavaliers...you don't race a nearly stock Cavalier.

You can.. you just won't get very far
Edit: Actually
on topic, that sucks for him. At least in a Cavalier you could be like "108?".

i agree, but a picture of a few people bloody with scattered body limbs after crashing into a tree would work much better.
a fine isnt enough to deter people from doing it.....but a loss of life might

I agree. However, many people on here can't afford to even lose something they all take for granted....driving. It's a huge privilege. My roommate can't even afford to get his car inspected and the registration on his girl's car is expired. Now imagine over $500 in fines, higher insurance, and getting to these meetings (if you didn't have another ride)...it helps, but agree, limbs all over the place is far more effective.
i call for limbs!!!
one of you street racing douche bags go provide us your limbs!
Being the son of a firefighter, I have had the unfortunate expirence in seeing limbs and body parts scattered all over the place due to kids street racing. Believe me when I tell you, it definitly made me rethink how I was driving, and took any dangerous speeds to the local raceway (which was all of 20 min. from where I live).
Once you see something like that, it is something that haunts you forever. And actually, I think everyone should be exposed to it, and Im not talking about pictures. Real life accident scenes. Let some punk 16 yr old kid take a good look at how his "uber driving skillz" could wind up having him in 3 different places.

Your laws are pretty lax. In Ontario (Canadian province for the uneducated)..... GOing that fast instantly constitutes itself under our "street racing" laws. (brought on by a liberal government trying to get reelected). Basicly anything 50km over the speed limit (KM not miles !), instantly means your license is suspended, your car is impounded, and you face anywhere from a $ 2000 to $ 10 000 fine. Your car can also be crushed.
It is pathetic really, it hasn't stopped anyone from speeding..... AND harsher laws are not the answer. THE ANSWER is right in front of us. MAKE it harder to get a license. In Germany, you have to attend their road coarse classes for weeks, and doc in hours of driving time before you are aloud on the road. They have LESS acidents, and have highways with rediculous speeds.
My Cav

i'm buying a VW those people love trees, so they should love eachother too... "Andy"

pfftt europe... we cant learn anything from them!
now seriously i think thats a good idea. ive always been one to say they need to retest for licenses every 10-15 years. it will help get some of the pricks off the road, or atleast keep them off until they pass their test again. i also think we need to bring over from europe the law of no passing on the right. here its more of a guideline... there you do it and bye bye license.

Yeah, see that governor can come in handy for something after all.

I tried not to race in my cav because I would fall asleep from lack of excitement. Strict speeding laws just make me want to move out of a state - Massachusetts for example - as much as I love living here I HATE driving here - between insurance/speed laws/pot holes, it's absurd. As for Europe... matter of opinion. Speed cameras can go to hell but Europe is home to some slices of driving heaven.

the answer for how to eliminate street racing is simple.... THERE IS NO WAY TO STOP IT... I mean you can kind of reduce it... but most people street racing won't stop because of stories, pictures, etc... I mean some 18 year olds race, some 50 year old's race.... you can't stop it. HOWEVER in my opinion the best way to reduce it would be to have more tracks to race safely at.... definitely wouldn't eliminate it (sorry but nothing will short of speed limiters on EVERY VEHICLE) but it would take it down a little. And on the subject of stupid drivers, don't forget about the moms and dads in their damn minivans do 30-40+ over the speed liimit to get to the cottage a little early... i mean just as stupid

good point... although street racing can be much more dangerous its the same theory... speed!...

oh shut the hell up. Why dont you go bear some children, WOMAN
------------------------------------------------------------
ok let me rephrase what i want to say here...
street racing is @!#$ retarded. anyone has access to a track somewhere, its just down to who is mature enough to go there. and for the kid with 1320video in his sig defending street racing and calling anti-street race talkers "women" for not agreeing with it... well... i guess thats expected. "1320video where we video tape street racing all the time because ZOMG ITS UBER COOL"..... morons.... complete, and total children.

wait a minuet... so a story about a cop offering to let a guy off for doing 120 down the road is supposed to show us why we shouldn't race?
JLAudioCavalier, since when was 1320video a strictly streetracing website. There is more organized events than streetracing been that way for a long time.
Your ignorance makes you look retarded. The only people injured, killed, ticketed in street racing/accidents were going to be taken by natural selection anyway and I'm glad because they are what gives streetracing a bad name. I find it hilarious how people on the internet post these stories where someone died streetracing as a "this can happen to anyone" kind of post. Never the fact that this 16 year old moron was driving 100 mph in a Hyundai Accent racing his buddies 85 civic on a residential road.
------------------------------------------------------------
*yawn*
"dont street race" we get it, for the millionth time.
i dont think that any post like this does any good at all. people will do what they want, regardless if you try to preach to them or not.
and not that it matters to anyone, but i do find this constant barrage of anit-street racing propaganda a bit tedious, to say the least. yes, we all know that street racing can kill you. we get it. why keep bringing it up again and again? do you think for a second that you'll change anyone's mind on the subject? "wow! i was going to go out street racing tonight, but i just read a story on the internet about a guy in a corvette getting pulled over and getting a $500 ticket! boy, i can relate to a 50 yr old in a corvette..! i'd better not go out street racing tonight!!!"
seriously.....if pics and threads and stories about people being torn to bits after wrecking at 100+mph arent effective, how on earth do you think a story like this will work?
ok cavmania, you are right. as long as you aren't a young kid in a civic or other slow 4 banger, street racing is fine. as long as you "do it safely" it is legal and perfectly fine. ur an idiot. and yeah all i have seen for 1320 vidoes are the guy with the very nice twin turbo'd silverado running around making fun on ricers(that are no less mature than him) and street racing on very populated roads. and other vids of the same kind of @!#$ from other vehicles... very mature people to say the least, ey?
On the other hand....you have other fingers.
