Just wondering, I remember the commercials, but I've never actually seen one of these anywhere, was this a complete flop or what?

The option was disscontinued due to cost.
Nissan Hicas/Honda 4WS re-visited.
It's a great option but it's a bitch to maintain and fix.
I remember reading that GM sold way less of them than they had planned. It was a pretty expensive option wasn't it?
You can always tell its a quadra steer because the rear wheels stick out a little bit farther, and theres more of a "bubble" effect on the fender that goes around the tire

Try cost. GM bundled it into a $6500 option package. It's a shame really, I loved those trucks and the idea.
I actually asked the general manager of one of the dealerships in my town (population 160 000) if they had ever actually sold any of those. His replies were they received a used one from the states, sat on the lot for eight months, and promptly went back.

You can also tell if it's Q.S. by the running lights on the roof. The flared fenders in the rear made the truck wide enough to mandate the roof lights, even though it was only a half ton and not a duallie. They were a great idea, and real neat to actually drive, but sold poorly. Certain year Denalis had them as standard equipment. Also, you couldn't use those trucks to launch a boat, the units didn't like being submersed in water.

These were great rigs for trailer towing and very easy to park, but it was an expensive system. This was GM's test platform for the electric power steering systems that we now have on Cobalt, G5, Ion, G6, Malibu, Aura, Torrent, Vue and Equinox. It's still a work in progress, not enough steering feel/ feedback for my liking, but I've been told the new turbo Cobalt SS has a new electric steering column that should be much better. We'll see!!
The lastest versions of electric steering from GM work pretty well.
I don't understand the need for the rear steer option on the truck. I have towed with a crew cab long box with no issue.
I would not want to have to fix it. The hondas in he 80's were POS's too. Porsche had a mechanical version anf they even gave up on it.
