I am thinking about getting a more fuel friendly vehicle for the spring to fall months when I don't need to drive the truck. It's not that I can't afford to drive it all year, it's just, why bother paying that much when I don't have too, and I can have a nice car to boot.
Anyhow, I have settled on either an 04/05 GTP or CTS.
Lets do a pros and cons for both to help me decide.
GTP
Pro - probably GM's best engine ever in terms of longevity and reliability.
Con - 260hp, but takes premium gas
Con - I already own a GTP (we sort of

)
CTS
Pro - I love Caddys and have wanted a CTS since I first saw one.
Pro - 260hp, and takes regular gas
Con - RWD
So far, the CTS is winning.
Anything else to consider?

Prestiege of owning a Cadillac.
See pro #1 for CTS

My old GTP cost like $500 a year for full coverage, and I can't imagine the 04 GTP would be any more then the Sierra cost to insure, which is like $900 a year.
I should call about the CTS though, I really have no idea on it.

rear wheel=pro, especially if its a second car
hop on in i've got a J
If im not mistaken the Grand Prix V6 Supercharged engine only requires Premium fuel. If it is not the supercharged engine, then it takes regular gas. But, you also might want to condier this, if you get premium gas, its only 20cents extra per gallon, which ends up to be an extra 2 dollars per 10 gallons. So, you would only be paying less than 4 dollars in gas every fill up.

^^ My mistake, sorry.
Then just ignore the first couple of sentances of my post

Late model W-bodies are cheap to maintain and have a good fun to practicality ratio.
CTS will likely cost a great deal more to maintain and be pretty lame in the speed realm.
That's why I am even still considering a GTP. I have an 11 year old one now (well sort of), but anyhow. That thing still runs like a champ, and gives me less headaches then the Sierra does.
Still, even knowing that the CTS could have a higher running cost, there is still something about it that makes me want it.

CTS gets horrible gas mileage. I don't care what the government rates them at. Your truck will get better gas mileage guaranteed! Personal experience.
How bad is horrible? They are rated for 35mpg or so. My truck gets around 16-17mpg.

How do you justify buying a whole other car to offset gas costs?
The car would be cheaper to drive then what I am driving now. I am selling the truck if I buy a car, and I am not looking to spend more on the car, then I get for the truck.
I will worry about what to do next winter, next winter.

**there is only one true love in my life... and my girlfriend has learned to live with it**
i get about 17 mpg avg in my CTS.....
I loved my car... Untill this winter...
If I didnt already have one car I parked in the winter I probably wouldnt mind, but I am soooooooo over this car...
(note opinion is subject to change as we just got 2 ft of snow dumped on us and winter has taken its toll on my car, give me spring and a good wax and I will probably stop crying like a little girl..)

I'm sure highway milleage is good. The car is a heavyweight though. Stop and go traffic's a bitch. A 3.6 liter engine has to work hard to get it to move.
A CTS with eibachs and sway bars makes for a very nice ride. It's tight yet comfy. LIkely because the car is so heavy.
I like the car, but....an l67 w body is a lot of bang for your buck. I would get amazing milleage on my Monte as long as I drove it nice. At 2000 rpm I'd be at 120kmh. The HD's final drive did wonders.
I'd take home a V over any W.
I am going to look at this one today
2004 GTP
I believe this is a Comp-G package, can anyone verify?
Hopefully, they will give me a good trade on the truck.

**there is only one true love in my life... and my girlfriend has learned to live with it**
I don't think so. But the Comp-G just has the tapshifter IIRC. GTP's are all leather interior and S/C as I remember (my mom used to have one).
^ GTP's don't all have leather interior... my dad just picked up a white 04 gtp and it's got cloth interior. but yes, all gtp's are s/c.
i love his 04, it's a lot comfier inside than the old gen grand prixs and i like the looks a lot more. still has a great amount of power too.
Check out my build thread!
It was a Comp-G, and I really liked it, but I think I am still going to wait and see if I can find one with less KMs for the same money in the next couple months. I also want to get a CTS out before I decide too.
